The economy is still collapsing with only stimulus money giving the appearance that the fall is abating.

U.S. tentatively emerging from recession: Fed's Evans

CHICAGO (Reuters) – The U.S. economy is "tentatively" emerging from severe recession and inflation, as well as inflation expectations, are under control, Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Evans said on Friday.

Opening the Chicago Fed's financial literacy conference, Evans decried attacks on the central bank's monetary policy independence -- part of the political fallout from the lengthy financial crisis.

"Confusion over the Fed's role is quite understandable, given the unconventional steps we have taken over the past two years to ensure liquidity flows in the wake of the financial crisis and the non-traditional monetary policy environment that we are in," said Evans.

Greater financial literacy helps the Fed to better explain its decisions and dispel "misconceptions" about the central bank, said Evans, who is a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee in 2009.

"We have an important responsibility to explain our policy actions to a broad and diverse public," he said.

"The better the public understands the work of the Fed, the easier it will be for us to achieve our mission."

A Preservative Bail-Out was engineered, both with Tederal Reserve Interest Rate Cuts, loans, and then legislative TARP. Still there would be four quarters of negative growth. Preserving the GOP induced status quo didn't work.

In fact, the failed system of the rich getting richer, and the poor getting pooer: Doesn't Work. No one so-states, and that doesn't work either.

So there are now intending analysts and commentators intending killings of Americans, both at home and abroad.

Then came Preservative Stimulus, with state and local governments provided funding to do what they should have been able to do on their own. Punahou-Schooled, Ivy League Obama, would essentially so-state that police, education, and other government jobs would be preserved.

Then Cash for Clunkers exposed the scam. That actually worked. A fifth quater of declining GDP was no longer in the offing. A GOP loser would have to shout in Congress Assembled, "You Lie," to the black guy: While there was still time.

The more redistributive aspects of the stimulus package actually don't kick in until 2010.

Further stimulus efforts have been put on hold, and continuing preservatives have been scaled back.

So there is Change in the Offing after all!

We can only hope that it's right. People with cash looking to put it somewhere will seek the place that offers the best return. In tough times, or in good times, that place is different.

When the place where the cash goes represents an investment, that means jobs and that means a boost to the economy.

When the place where the cash goes represents a safe harbor against the uncertainties of the future, T-Bills, it usually means a slow down upcoming.

This should be and has been a good indicator. Maybe it's time to exhale. We can only hope.

This is not a tea leaves kind of a read. This is folks with money making a bet on the future with knowledge of their little part of the world that they are comfortable with. I learned a long time ago that I need to watch the smart folks an follow their lead.
