I think there's a lot of politicians who want control. There's already been a few trans fats laws and a lot of cigarette taxes predicated upon the idea that a lot of the people harming themselves with these things won't be able to pay for their own hospital care when those habits catch up with them. Couple that factor with way our system is currently set up, where tax payers essentially pay for the privilege to tell hospitals that they can't turn anyone away, and bam, politicians can site a vested, financial interest that the taxpayers have in making sure people don't smoke or eat too much.

Because they are mooching deadbeats who want someone else to pay for their healthcare insurance.

Because the rest of the world spends half of what the USA spends on healthcare that is ranked #37 in the world, and has poor outcomes. US life expectancy is DECLINING while the rest of the first world is living longer. It is more profitable for your health care system to encourage sickness and addiction than to encourage the health of your nation.

Big Pharma is now paying billions for addicting millions of Americans to opiods. Advanced medicine and the costs of getting sick are driving the vast majority of personal bankruptcies. The rehap industry is cycling addicts into and out of 28 day treatment programs, because addicts are such dependable customers.

And women can't get their health insurance to pay for reproductive health issues, while more American women die in childbirth than any first world nation, and the infant mortality rate is the highest in the first world.

If we want Canada's opinion we'll beat it out of them.

I have a solution:

A.. We reduce welfare where a mother on welfare has another child. We reduce welfare in general, including no welfare for immigrants unless they meet the standard, and only cover critical medical for illegals. However, illegals would still owe a debt to we citizens.

B. Everyone pays for healthcare, and everyone pays income tax too. Only exception are children who are wards of the State, and those who meet a threshold of truly disabled. You can do this on a sliding scale of some sort with ceilings and floors.

Suddenly the poor might take some interest in their health. All universal does is give them an excuse to abuse themselves and society. Maybe that's why PROGS love it, but I don't suspect most can connect the dots anyway.
