Paul is a nominal Republican who claims to be libertarian. In this clip, he indeed shows his libertarian colors on the subject of imported baby formula.

For whatever nonsensical bureaucratic reasons, much of European formula is banned form import by the FDA. But those bans - mainly to do with labeling and such factors as iron content - are lifted due to the incredible fact that mom can't feed their babies due to FDA incompetence.

Paul asks, if these formulas are safe enough that the FDA is willing to find a work-around for their own regulations, why not lift those regulation and allow the free market to provide formula as needed?

Lefties, look at it as "to each according to his needs," which the free market excels at providing.

Or more bluntly, which is safer: feeding a baby formula that does not comply with the jumble of FDA labeling requirements, or feeding a baby no baby formula at all?

Yet the liberoadals spare no opportunity to demadt importation of pharmaceuticals, which have been made "cheaper" in the exporting nations by lavish subsidies.

If the left didn't have double standards......
