My brother is friends with the officer involved, and we haven't been on speaking terms for 8 years because of it.

Short version: The officer panicked and shot McDonald 16 times, most of them when he was lying on the ground.

The CPD lied about the incident and covered it up. Rahm decided to go along with the cover-up and tried to silence the kid's family by paying them a $5MM settlement he pushed through the City Council. His intent was to push the issue out until after the 2015 election for mayor. (Unlike his first run in 2011, Rahm was forced into a runoff in 2015).

The reason the coverup didn't stay covered up was because 1) The Cook County Coroner's Office called bullshit on the official story and 2) They finally released dash-cam from one of the police cruisers showing what actually happened.

The other is treatment that is administered by a health care professional after serious consideration of the case.

So there's that.

The reality is, very few of the 300,000 Transgender Youth are getting even the most basic level of Gender Affirming Care, which is hormone therapy. Bottom Surgery is rarely performed.
