I see that all of the senators had to sign an oath to kick off proceedings in the Trump impeachment today.

What does the oath actually state?

Good question.

""Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald John Trump, president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help you god?" Roberts asked senators."

I'm sure half of them lied.

"The Senator’s Oath in impeachment trials addresses the tension between the political and legal character of impeachment. The requirement of “impartial justice” means that every Senator must decide from behind the veil of ignorance -- that is, as if he or she did not know the party affiliation of the person impeached. This includes evaluating the evidence, and deciding whether the proven misconduct justifies removal from office. Senators violate their oath if they apply friendlier standards to Presidents of their own Party than to those of the opposing Party."

Tell that to all the Senators

Here is your evidence.

And here is a magnifying glass so you can see it.

How do a bunch liars convict a liar? Isn’t it a conflict of interest?

Some from each side should have said "no".

Does the oath really matter? 99% of them had their mind made before the articles were sent to the Senate likewise 99% of the House knew how they were going to vote before they ever saw a single piece of evidence or heard from any witnesses.
