Question for Military people.

Back in the mid 70's it was against regs to shave your head. It was "conduct unbecoming". What happened?
It was? I was in the Navy back then and had a couple friends who did that on a cruise. Nobody got in trouble for it. The haircut police were just anal about hair touching your ear or collar.

They sure were concerned with our haircuts, weren't they?

As I recall, that's how many lifers ended a disagreement with "Get a haircut!"

I used to rag CSM Charles Copeland mercilessly about the issue.

Sorry, Z grams were Navy

Yup, all of far righties want to look like Mussolini or Streicher.

Although I didn't go on my first deployment until 1983, I DO remember a lot of people (myself included) getting what we called "cruise haircuts", meaning that we shaved our heads at the beginning of deployment.

Why did we do it? Because there was nobody out at sea to try to look good for, and you generally didn't need a haircut until around month 4 or 5, meaning you only needed to get one or two haircuts. Cut down on hassle and saved time.
