Nasa needs a plan and the funding to move it forward. There's no question we can protect the planet to small asteroids to maybe a half mile. Would be a good idea seeing that 100-500 foot asteroids are coming out of no where almost yearly within the orbit of the moon.

The ability to intercept and destroy smaller asteroids has been around for over 30 years. SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative - AKA: Star Wars) has had the ability to capture and destroy incoming ICBM's as well as small to medium size comets/asteroids.
