Don't a lot of the high-end NYC hotels have VIP entrances & exits from the hotel? Why wouldn't they just drive to it and get off the road? And switiching from a SUV with tinted windows to a taxi cab that isn't tinted? 5D-chess level move.

In a busy city like NY nobody saw it and nobody photographed it with their hand held devices and it was apparently not recorded on any of the millions of surveillance cameras. Can they face charges if the incident they reported never happened?
