I see no reason for schools to provide texts and reference material in subjects and courses that are not in the curriculum. Since religion is not taught in public schools there is no reason to waste money on religious texts for public school libraries.

It is an unnecessary expense and people have access to any books they want to read through their public libraries or online sources.

Unlike school textbooks the Bible doesn't change with the seasons, and they are in no danger of becoming 'dog-eared' from overuse.

I have to admit that on this one, they have a small point. However, most of the time the right are talking about inappropriate books accessible to young children in public schools, which I don't believe includes the bible. Most public schools have already banned the bible, even for older children. Private schools parents choose to send their kids to is a different story.

And where is it required that any public school library be of any scope and size especially considering the space needed and the expense involved in stocking a comprehensive library?

Why do you think a public school that is limited in scope not to mention space and money should have a library that rivals that of a town or city public library?

Certainly a bunch of elementary school kids don't need to have every book ever written on hand inside their schools right?
