China is between a rock and hard place. The lack of regulation has allowed the Chinese economy to grow rapidly. However, the cost has been the death of over 400,000 each year. Despite growing efforts to prevent air and water pollution, it's getting worse each year. It's only a question of time before the Chinese government cracks down and when it comes, it's going to make the EPA regulations look like a walk in the park.

Let's hope China does "crack down" and soon. But I doubt many countries (if any) top our EPA w/r to rules and regs.

Ambient air pollution alone in China is blamed for hundreds of thousands of deaths each year. Nearly 500 million people lack access to safe drinking water. Cancer deaths are expected to increase by 75% by 2030.

In the short term it's doubtfully that the government can rein in free markets with pollution control restrictions. However, over the long term it has to happen.

China does not need to ban fossil fuels to make a very big reduction in the level of pollution. They just need to install a lot of pollution control devices, convert to fossil fuels that pollute less, upgrade their sewage plants so they stop pouring raw sewage in the rivers, and reduce vehicle emissions. Sure solar and windpower will have a much bigger impact on reducing greenhouse gases, but China is not in a position to do that now.

If they don't do some drastic cleanup in the next few decades, the country is going to become unlivable.

LOL.....its called common sense s0n!!! To the conservative mind, two questions are a little bit important to ask concerning any matter in terms of proposed public policy......in this case, energy policy:

1) As compared to what?

2) At what cost?

To the AGW crowd, those questions are immaterial to the discussion. Not considered for a moment. Psychiatrists call it "Thought Processing Disorder" ( inability to connect the dots)......in laymans terms, a mental case. Conservative minded people dont go to a proctologist for a sore throat.


People with connect the dots abilities know well that it is impossible to ask taxpayers, who are already being crushed, to endure a doubling of their energy bills based upon a fucking computer model......indeed, no matter how many mega-bombs the k00k AGW crowd throws, it aint happening in our lifetime. 100% certianty......any projection decades out has renewables still a sliver of the energy market ( less than 10%). Coal, gas and oil dominate well into the 2040's.
