One of my go to gun shops called me this morning and said he got in a bunch of guns so I drove on over.

It was mostly antique stuff, a shit-ton of Mosin 91/30 refurbs and a baker's dozen CW swords but there were a few "modern" handguns for decent prices.

I spied this W. German made Walther PPK/S, extra mag, and Pre-WW-2 holster and took it home for $300.00. I think 1970-71 was the first year the PPK/S was imported from W. Germany by Interarms.

Strictly a shooter as it had a good bit of finish loss, sound otherwise. I ordered another set of grip panels as the ones on it were are worn.

The holster was a nice bonus....I'll hold on to it for when I find a WW-2 dated PPK.

It must have been carried a lot over the years.....When I opened it up to clean it there was a bunch of lint in it.

PSA.....Clean your EDC weapon at least monthly, it's amazing what can build-up over that time.

I also took a real hard look at a minty (royal blued) 1982 Colt Python, it was priced right at $1200.00 but it was 6" barreled so I passed.

Nice find for a decent price.

It's hard to beat the Walther brand:

sold German engineering
My first gun a Sig 239 has the German frame, NH upper

now they are all made here

now you can do the James Bond pose for friends and family ;)

Too "modern" of a Walther for me. ;)
The real joke is everybody now copies the glock polymer frame to some degree

The reason Audi, BMW and MB are no longer unique, cookie cutter

HK invented the polymer frame with the VP-70 series of pistols. They followed those with the P9 series. Long before Glock ever reared it's little head.

You are correct but the VP few under the radar, was only in the EU that I know of
Glock made it better, cheaper, less parts and pushed it hard in the US for LE

mission accomplished

Nope. You could buy the VP here in the states. As a pistol it actually sucked. But when you attached the buttstock to it, it became the world's first practical PDW. Granted, chambered only in 9mm, but the stock turned it into a select fire weapon with a ROF of 2200 rpm.

That was a blast!

before my time to buy a gun

if they invented the poly wheel so to speak glock did it better, cheaper, faster and more reliable with less moving parts to fail and super easy to take down and clean

Glock copied the HK P9 takedown system, except instead of pushing the takedown lever up, they made it two buttons you have to pull down. But the HK system works far better than the Glock. You can fieldstrip an HK P9 in two seconds. Has a similar number of parts, but was more accurate, and had interchangeable length barrels (all the way up to 14" Hunters Barrels) from the very beginning.

The only thing Glock did was make them cheaper.

And it shows.

yet it did not become the standard LE of the time in the USA

has to be a reason......price, too complex, parts are $$, the usual and more moving parts

HK invented the polymer wheel, Glock improved it.....

I love my P2000, yes easy take down to clean, more refined than my 19

HK is a Mercedes, Glock is like a Honda, not as nice but built like a tank that last forever

Personally yes my P2000 feels better, Glock is like a cockroach, will outlive me

HK never tried to. HK only cared about being the best there was, and until Royal Ordnance bought them, they were. Glock improved nothing, they made it cheaper. My P9S Target will outlive all of us. Glocks won't. They have a useful life of about 40 years. The polymer they use will eventually degrade from exposure to UV from the Sun.

And you're wrong, HK uses FEWER parts. That's what made them special.

Overengineered? Maybe. But no matter what crap I was forced to put in them they always go bang.

I own a Walter PPS in 9mm as a service weapon and it’s a tack hammer.

Consistently does well on the range (never pulled it out of the holster on duty). It’s probably a better weapon than my skill-level deserves.

But I rate it over the service Glock without hesitation.

All plastic will fade from exposure eventually

fewer parts? total parts for a 19 is 34, parts you may need to service if ever are 10-15
upgrade to NY1 wishbone I did 18 years ago and it's practically bulletproof

too many vids of glocks run over, frozen in ice that still fire, tortured, they are tank

not as refined as modern HK but still tanks

Won't take anything away from HK, yes the first which has been improved, that is simple progress
