The rhetoric can be distracting, but the basic problem for nearly all of Europe is that with its low birth rate and early retirement ages, it is approaching a time when there will not be enough active workers to support its retired population, so the European countries will have to raise retirement age or import foreign workers, and as the riots in France show, neither solution is acceptable to the population, but one will have to be chosen or their very prosperous economies will become poorer and poorer.
