The dangers from this event aren't just from a single hurricane - there are two cold fronts sweeping in from the west.
ONE THIRD of the country's population will be affected by this Frankenstorm.
How you can help:
The Red Cross will be taking donations, as will other reputable organizations. Please be sure to check out the organization to make sure it's legit.
Donate blood.
If you're a utility worker, medical professional, or social worker your help is needed. If you are able-bodied, armies of sandbaggers are needed. If you live in or near the affected areas, call your emergency management agency, local police or fire department, county sheriff's department, or local Civil Defense group (if there is one.)
Millions of people will have their homes damaged or destroyed by floods - the runoff from mountains will cause valley rivers to overflow their banks, and that water will be rushing much faster than usual.
FEET of snow is predicted for mountain areas, particularly in West Virginia. Power lines WILL come down, leaving hundreds of thousands, mostly children, in freezing cold.
If you want to help, but don't know what to do, call the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, or your pastor, who can help organize physical donations like food, water, blankets, baby needs, hygiene supplies, over-the-counter medicines, pet supplies, and laundry soap.
