The effectiveness has reduced over time, that's true but partly because there are new variants that the original vaccine wasn't designed for.
Booster shots have been shown to push the effectiveness back up.
It's a novel virus that is still being studied which is meanwhile mutating partly helped by the low level of vaccination in certain populations.
