Shuttles aren't spacecraft. They can barely get into low-orbit then come back down. That's not a spaceship. Neither's unmanned probes. I'm talking the first manned spaceship that can actually go somewhere. Mars probably.

It's hard to imagine anyone who's contributed more to the space program than the guy who gave the world Star Trek, Earth:Final Conflict, and more inspiring countless people to pursue academics. Be it the sciences, humanities, psychology (moi,) and whatever else.

The first human spacecraft should bear his name. And if we really wanna let our geek flags fly it should be the,

U.S.S. Gene Roddenberry
 
I think, in his memory, it should be named the USS Enterprise, after the spacecraft he named, and made famous
