Maybe. But I think both "sides" are pretty happy with the current arrangement. If there ever were single-party rule, likely, eventually - that party would be toppled. But by agreeing to swap back and forth every few years, and keep everyone playing the lesser-of-two-evils game, both parties are permanently entrenched. Win/win!

You’re assuming Trump/MAGA is normal and not a fascistic cult. Trump and his Project 2025 minions are doing everything they can to eliminate the back and forth checks and balances. That’s why you see so many oldline Republicans and Democrats joining forces to battle Trumpism.

But the American electorate, collectivey speaking, is pretty good at political sportball. Red hemlets vs blue helmets type pablum. Trying to create some foolish notion of difference between themselves when, in reality, there is no difference.

The only real conservatives left in America are the classical liberals.
