While I'm not the brightest bean in the pot when it comes to the political debates we have on here I AM smart enough to know when wars are fought for religious reasons despite what is spoon fed to the populas.

...for the Christians are few & seldom, if ever, heard publicly. U may have confused the real Christians with the church going commercial "churchians". Christians refuse to be politically involved & do NOT believe in legislating morality. U can identify a real Christian as they R strictly home based in their bible studies & have nothing to do with organised religion, professional church structures & public so called evangelizing. I've actually studied with these folks & they R truly amazing people! They do not have denominations either, like just plain great folks I can tell U!

As far as the churchians, muslims, secularists, other denominations what ever they may be, & non believers, don't worry about them. Just enjoy your life day by day as most of us do & don't worry about the future. For the most of us our rewards are in the now & in the flesh, so enjoy while U can!

It also greases the wheels of colonialism. Meaning: by defining a group as anachronistic or atavistic or pre-modern, it's easier to justify intervening in their affairs (which leads to blowback).

Both Britain and the U.S. have fallen prey to messianic nationalism: the belief that being more evolved (technologically and morally) mandates saving the world. For Washington this means "spreading freedom" or democracy.

It wasn't always obvious that America should save the world by spreading democracy. In fact, the old isolationist Conservatives fought FDR and Truman tooth and nail. They said that Washington wasn't competent or knowledgeable enough to manage the globe through military intervention. The old conservatives would not have let Bush create an agenda of rebuilding the Arab world in the name of freedom. The old Conservatives simply didn't trust the power of Washington as much as today's conservatives.

The scary part is that the GOP will probably re-take the White House in 2016. And they will put Washington back in charge of saving the world with democracy. Don't these morons know that Government can't save the world? Don't they know that we can't afford all these wars?

That much is true. Islam is still as radical as ever and cruel towards women. Mentally, a lot of them haven't evolved. The Muslim Brotherhood is a good example.

There are always the extreme elements and they can be found everywhere.

There are those who shoot abortion doctors and they are crazy. Most Christians settle for billboards and campaigning against abortion, which is their right.

Those who hijack and fly our planes into buildings and kill thousands are subhuman pieces of crap. And they have attacked countless times and will again. I don't see them exercising rights to change things, but trying to change by threats and killing.

At least most religions preach and practice good will and peace. Any that don't should not be recognized and should not be allowed freedom of religion. A person could create their own religion based on violence, so there is clearly a line that gets crossed. If one religion thinks it can abuse women, stop them from voting or keep them out of school, then they go against our laws, which comes before anything else.

Religions should adopt a live and let live philosophy. When their goal is dominating the world by annihilating others, they aren't religions, just gangs that hide behind religion.

I don't want to be threatened, murdered, recruited or have people with pamphlets show up at my door.

Then, you don't know much about history and the subject isn't taught on political debate sites. If you look back at the last major wars, they weren't fought over religion. If you look back at the entire history of war, religion was only involved in a small minority and even then, it was usually an excuse for someone's greed.

People with an agenda aren't open-minded, don't learn and facts mean nothing to them.

But why would any religion evolve? The truth is the truth, is it not?

Since Religion is based upon a written document (Bible, Qur'an), the document is either infallible (the word of God) or fallible (the work of man). If the document changes over time, it would seem it was wrong to begin with, and in that case it is worthless. If that be the case, ALL religious documents are no more than the undocumented opinions of fallible and prejudiced mortals.

Of course it could be that men are more enlightened now and have a better understanding regarding what the ancient words mean; however, that would tend to establish that the Bible was poorly written and confusing early on, and that does not not speak well of "divine inspiration."

I suppose that in the end, there are those who treat the Bible the same way as the U.S. Constitution. To some it is a compilation of laws which must be interpreted and applied within the literal meaning of each word and clause; but to others, it is a living document which must change as the world itself changes.

I'll figure it all out in another drink or two, but for now I think I will concentrate on another drink or two.
