"Pain Management" in America

It does, did it for years.....

good lord:eek: , ive taken a number of GSW victims in my time for a ride ,but you take the cake .

you musta been leakin' all over!

~S~

I had 11 bullet wounds. What is really weird is that they didn't even give me a pint of blood in the hospital until 2 days before I was to be released. They were doing bloodwork and the lab results weren't quite right. They didn't want to waste a pint when I didn't need one but the docs kept saying just give him one, and he should be fine. After one I immediately felt so much better and labs came back normal.

In the blood work I had done not long ago for another medical reason, there is one thing that talks about the size of your blood platelets (what makes your blood coagulate) and mine was off the charts large. So apparently I don't bleed easily.

I take a low-level pain medicine called tramadol for prostatitis. Prostatitis is a brutal thing. At the same time, I had a bad spinal injury about four years ago, which left me in a wheelchair for a while. Combining the two makes for a challenge. I have long-term effects from the spine injury. I got into a car accident causing a spine injury four years ago. And the prostatitis came about a year after the car accident.

It wasn’t easy getting a prescription for the tramadol. Had to keep on making request to the doctor and finally got it. Interestingly enough in Cambodia you can get whatever pain medicine you want. Just walk into a pharmacy in any mall you can even get hydrocodone or Percocets without a script.

with God’s assistance positive thinking, exercise and this low level pain medicine I can prevail.

Before the pain pill, I tried everything, physical therapy, gabapentin, numerous types of approaches none really worked. If the prostatitis can one day disappear, then I can get off the tramadol. We will see.

It sounds like you have the important things already figured out:
1. Positive thinking
2. Exercise
3. Minimum pain meds

Keep up the good work.

Hire a maid with an oxy connection. Then you'll feel fine.

It might seem like only "other people" deal with some sort of chronic pain but the older you get the sooner you become one of those "other people".

What are your thoughts and / or experiences?

Thanks,

I am paying for my youthful fun. Both elbows blown out Wrestling, right knee football, Left knee skiing. :( Tried Gabapentin, Toradol. What works? Dilauded, Hydrocodone, Morphine and Oxycodone. Those are not long term solutions. They keep saying I will adjust but not so far.

Join the club of individuals who have lived life fully if not always wisely.
I played the same sports plus bicycle racing, 4 motorcycle wrecks, about 20 combat jumps in S.E. Asia, walked and hitch hiked around the Middle East for 10 - 11 months, worked on a pile driver, enjoyed 30 years of blacksmithing and on and on.
I just picked up my new wheelchair from the V. A. yesterday and am having surgery for cancer this week

Naturally, knees, back, broken foot and two 25 year old artificial hips are among the things that hurt.

Even though it hurts, I stay as active as possible, count my many blessings and alternate different pain meds.
I currently take morphine ("The Breakfast of ex-champions") to try to be useful.

By the way, how long have you tried to adjust the to which med?

Some are rotten from the start and others need time.

Good luck and feel free to ask me anything.

It sucks. There is no justice. If one is over 70 ,the dam Docs say Opioids and opium based drugs might kill you. SO? Just let us suffer? What about Quality of Life?

I'm sorry that you're having trouble finding the right doctor

I'm assuming that you live in the US but, then, laws vary from state to state.

Most doctors are reluctant to prescribe opioids unless they're trained in Pain Management and / or work specifically with pain control.
A lot of pain clinics will push for injections into the joints or other treatments that don't involve pain meds and some may work for some people.
As you know, everyone responds to medications differently.

Your G.P. or orthopedic doctor is not going to want keep writing prescriptions over a long period of time because of the legal liability and red flags it raises with the DEA and Medical review boards.

I'm over 70 but am more interested in the quality of life than the quantity of years I can rack up abstaining from life's innumerable temptations.

Good luck & enjoy your weekend,

I've never been clear as to how medical cannabis is different from simple, good quality refer.

I'm over 70 and am intimately familiar with the number of narcophobic sadists out here who pretend to treat chronic pain but just want to shove needles in your back.

Good luck,
There`s no difference. THC is THC. My wife tried everything to deal with the neuropathy in her feet, including a couple thousand dollars on some goofy laser lights. I suggested cannabis and it`s been a hit. It helps take her mind off the pain in her feet.

But your PC Doctor can block anything. They treat you like Statistics. Not individuals. I have a VERY high tolerance level to Opioids and Benzodiazapenes.

Me too, Morphine has no effect on me.

It hit me like a tidal wave. Pain behind my eye. Numbness and tingling. Major life changes in marriage, death of my dog.

I have anxiety I never had before though I know the solution I am stuck in the Police State creepy caste system.

There is no cure for a destroyed spirit. There is no prosthetic or medication for that. I know how the former East Germans felt.

The PC doctor I've been seeing for 13 years was great. He'd spend as much time as you needed and would prescribe Schedule 2 drugs.

Unfortunately, he had a stroke and can no longer practice.

So, I'm looking for someone else at the moment and not especially enjoying the process.

Regrettably, I, too, have a high tolerance for morphine, etc.

Good luck,

I'm sorry that you're going through such a rough time.
I obviously, don't have to tell you that chronic pain makes everything seem much worse.

Even though I've been through some pretty dismal times, I only know that bad times, like good ones, don't last forever.

You said that you knew the solution but the Police State caste system is in the way.

Could you please clarify what you mean.

Good luck,

Easy. Sell my home, put some away for retirement and use the rest to move.

There are some who don't want that to occur I'm afraid. Criminals who spit on the graves of men who died for our freedom.

Thanks,
A good friend of mine has scoliosis and he had reached a point where he was lucky if he could get an hour of sleep a night.

He was literally dying.

Then he found a acupuncturist down in Reno and that Doctor is a miracle worker. My friend is now out of pain, and living life again.

No drugs.

Most of the chronic pain patients I know personally have a hard time getting just maintenance drugs prescribed by their doctors these days and instead get stupid things "lose weight" as if someone who can barely walk can exercise more.

My chronic pain has been around for a long time. I still go to doctors. I take Advil. I take some prescribed meds for the sciatica and other back problems (discs and arthritis, etc.) But I also have started taking THC gummies, periodically.
