British and Ottoman government/censuses records show - that in 1917 of the total population of around 650,000 people in then mandated British Palestine, excluding Transjordan - 60,000 were Jews. aka 10%. And of those around 35,000 Jews were immigrants from Europe, who had never lived there before. Which matches the Ottoman census of 1900, which recorded around 25.000 Jews.
