We've all seen the headlines standing at the grocery store check out line. Story lines about alien abductions, two-headed ghouls, crazy stuff about celebrities. They are meant to be entertaining, amusing, a distraction from the doldrums of everyday life. There's nothing amusing about these headlines.

FBI searched Trump’s home to look for nuclear documents and other items, sources say

Amid tumultuous week, Trump takes the Fifth more than 400 times

Yes, It Was a Coup Attempt. Here’s Why.

Trump falsely claims his election was stolen

It's completely disorienting, like nothing else the country has experienced. As if the ground is shifting under our feet. It's unexpected in ways we never could have imagined.

What creates even more cognitive dissonance is trying to make a connection with a fellow American to discuss the day's events, only to have her say.........

There is a sense things have careened somewhat out of control. That which could be relied on for stability no longer can be. The collective aspirations, beliefs, basic moral code we once shared as a nation are far less uniformly held. Agreed upon standards for behavior have been challenged and now appear shattered.

At one time it was thought, perhaps prudishly, that a divorcee had no chance to be elected prez. Now, in some circles, having an adulterous affair with a porn star is perfectly acceptable. In the past, it would have been heretical to suggest a national political figure could take the side of a foreign despot, from a country considered to be our enemy, in a dispute with our intel community without being ostracized. Unbelievably, that is no longer the case.

There is grave concern this genie can't be put back in the bottle. That something is broken and it can't be fixed. Regrettably, I agree. At the least, it will take years after the cause for such division is off the stage to repair the damage done. The sooner the better.

Whoever decided politics had to have entertainment value should be ripped apart by wild hogs. Seriously, trying to make politics engaging for idiots might just be the end of us.

It's a natural consequence of electing a showman, not a statesman, to lead the country.

You would have to blame Teddy Roosevelt for this style of Political Theater.

His brash style of Politics became a favorite for the American people back in the day and has been reused many times since.

Now with that written the fact is the usual mind of the voter need someone to excite them to vote for them no matter if the person is a lying scumbag, so does it surprise you in today time of Tabloid news cycles that go on twenty-four days we have people needing someone like Trump to confirm their fears and hate?

Trump is just a symptom. All those poor white dumbasses who never really did anything with their lives are looking for scapegoats and Trump is only too happy to supply them. Now you can be politically engaged and not know a damned thing about how the government works or why the president can't be a king.

Clearly he has been the most dangerous, destabilizing force the country has ever seen.

Ah the sneering contempt. The elitism. Just move a blue city if you haven't already, sniff around at how much better you are than everyone else, and be done with it. By that I mean, leave the rest of us alone.

Pretty long for a message board, but okay. At any rate, I can boil it down in one sentence:

At one time it was thought, perhaps prudishly, that a divorcee had no chance to be elected prez. Now, in some circles, having an adulterous affair with a porn star is perfectly acceptable.

You recognize that this makes you a prude but you can't stop yourself from essentially writing an entire post about it--no, post after post after post--no, spending the last six years of your life obsessed with this fact. Trump is just not how YOU think a president should be. And you cannot get it out of your head.

The great cosmic joke is that you folks think you are the "tolerant" ones.

Expecting that our fellow Americans accept reality isn't elitist. Trump lost the election. Many of his followers, and Trump, refuse to accept that objective truth.
The country will not survive if a significant portion of the population continues in its fantastical beliefs.

Failing to understand that is probably the least concerning aspect of the disorienting effect of Trumpery does not speak well of your comprehension skills.

Why do you care if the country survives? You hate us, remember? Look at your buddy occupied he just called a bunch of fellow Americans poor white dumbasses. Moreover, you are STILL crying about Trump being president how many years later? Half the nation voted for him!!!

So what if the "country doesn't survive"!! Yours is the party of bending the knee at the SSB, hating the Pledge, hating the flag, all of it. Don't play the crying game now. We know what's up. Like you all a crap about America!

It's instructive. You started crying about "OH NO PORN STAR", realized it wasn't prudish, but couldn't stop there. Then it was the pee tape (!), Russian collusion (!), the phone call (!), all of these proven false--and you want to ding ME about MY comprehension skills!?!?

Your brain is on a positive feedback loop. It is a derangement. Everything you understand is on a "TRUMP BAD" loop now. You cannot see how unhinged it makes you look. Unhinged. If you can write as well as you did in the OP, you should have the good sense enough to come out of it. It doesn't mean you ever have to like Trump or condone what he did. But my glory, get a freaking grip.

Your disdain for your fellow Americans is the real disease. That bougie unearned sense of superiority that oozes from every single progressive SJW twat such as yourself.

Talk radio, and then Fox, and then the internet, had them primed and ready for this.

It just took one shameless, needy person, a lifelong con man, who was willing to say anything they wanted to hear. To steal a line from another poster, Trump took one look at these people and said, "THIS is gonna be EASY".

The familiarity from his celebrity greased the skids. It was over on Escalator Day. And now a profoundly damaged buffoon is on the brink of turning us into Europe of 85 years ago.

And your disdain for your fellow Americans is noted as well, just not as oozy as occupied.
