Biden took that and eventually got it down to 50,000 when he gave it back. Biden got a reduction of 200,000 without a big fuss, just working with Mexico to come up with some common sense solutions...

Trump has reduced by just 45,000 and he has masked agents on the streets without badges asking people for their papers, failure to not show could lead you to being disappeared...

The GOP started this back in 2009 when Mitch stated Obama had to be defeated. They acted irresponsibly from there, they painted Democrats as the enemy, we can see it today even on this forum. They call Democrats evil everyday.
That came initially from 2009 and Mitch and Koch brothers...

First came the Tea Party, a astroturf movement (which they thought was a grassroots movement), Koch's did there job there... Then they discovered that controlling the Tea Party was tricky, they had been rivalled up so much they weren't that rational and compromise (getting stuff done) was treason.

They got creamed by 2012 presidential but won congress.

For the 2016, the party was very disparate, no real leadership. Then came Trump, he was very good at grabbing attention, he knew that his job was to get eyeballs on him in a crowded field. It didn't matter if most of them didn't like you initially, when you goto a two horse race you always got a chance.

He basically beat Hillary by loosing the popular vote but the main reason was her votes didn't turn out. Truthfully they thought they had it won. Sounds stupid now but Democrats were very complacent at the time, they couldn't believe that someone would vote for this spoofer over a highly competent and accomplished operator like Hillary. Hillary was the most popular politician in US with a 65% approval 3 years previous, Democrats didn't get the memo, the GOP attack machine works.

So what happens in 2028, Trump will try and retain power like Putin did in Russia. He will try and find a willing front man ( Dmitry Medvedev), Trump might even resign as President as soon as '28 elections done, JD comes to power and give him & family a blanket pardon for all crimes (this means he walks with all the grift money).

If I was him I might put Ivanka as the puppet... She has a cleaner image, relatively... She wasn't near the shit show of this admin.

I think working with the Mexicans really worked... Co-operation makes a huge difference, we see it here in Europe.
If the country becomes a pass through country they are used as a path.

Example is France, a lot of immigrants don't want to stay in France, they don't speak french and they don't have family or friends to set them up. UK might be a lot more appealing.
France used to almost encourage them to leave France at Calais(French side of tunnel). They were jumping on back of trucks at traffic lights.. it was mayhem. France view at the time was to let them leave to UK and they can be their problem. They used to wander around town just looking to jump on the back of a truck, in front of French Police.

Then in 2024 it changed:

France started arresting and deporting in Calais and other port towns... suddenly this path is far more risky and you will be arrested if you are found in Calais without proof of residency. Courts will order your deportation.

Mexico could quietly remove those police enforcing this...
