Particular attention is being given to women, who are statistically more likely to experience financial disadvantage following separation, especially where economic dependence or childcare responsibilities have developed during the relationship.
The proposals suggest that a couple would qualify if they:
Have lived together for at least three years; or
Have a child together, regardless of how long they have lived together.
