He was a bit overboard with the religion stuff too. A few years after becoming a State, Massachusetts amended some of his stuff in the MASS Constitution.

And Adams wrote extensively on leaders being virtuous. Trump? Not an ounce of virtue.

The 1790 naturalization act, EXCLUDED the Irish, Italians, and Eastern Europeans as being white, and they could not become citizens after two years in good standing at the time. AND those people were as white as they come....

So maybe, it wasn't really about being white alone, but was about wanting people of familiar kind....same foods, same customs, same churches etc over the actual skin color that they were looking to be new citizens?
