These are interesting times. People need to be careful about the role of media in our society. The way news is reported has gone from objective fact-seeking to government political bias in a way that produces the impression that everything is a lie. So, essentially few believe anything they read or watch. US society has split into camps, some who know everything is a lie and some who believe lies. This is a dangerous phenomenon reminiscent of the Soviets and East Germans from the 1960’s but instead of using tanks and guns established power is using technology to create a reality that is not real. Splitting beliefs into opposing camps is fomenting chaos, and it is not clear if this developed on its own or if it is planned.
Here is a glaring example: On Jan 6, 2020, protests took place in the nation's capital over a contested election. Pro government supporters had been protesting with violence nonstop since the election of an antiestablishment president. Cites were taken over, and businesses were burned with some never recovering. The media used loaded terms like “mostly peaceful” to describe what was happening as justified protesting. But when anti-government supporters went to Washington DC in protest, it was labeled by legacy media as an “insurrection”. Government authorities killed a protester with an indiscriminate shot fired into a crowd and that was the only death that resulted from the event.
A legitimate insurrection would involve planning, recruiting, and arming of insurrectionists with guns, bombs, and military equipment. The destruction would leave the capitol leveled by fires and littered with blasted ruins, none of which occurred. But the word insurrection was used by the media for effect to suggest a manufactured reality. So, unlike the Soviets that used muscle to enforce power from outside, US political establishments are altering perceptions to take down opposition from the inside.
The real danger here is the inability of some to make these distinctions. It is likely that this situation evolved with technology and was not specifically planned. But the destructive results are as bad as if it was planned. The global forces that want to take down US middle class democracy are making use of it to achieve their ends.
The US has been a stumbling block to globalization and one world governance for many years. US media is no longer on the team of the people.
