Trump has been a bullshitter, a salesman, a huckster, all his working life. It suited him (to some degree) in business because it was a natural fit. Also, lacking the ability to communicate in an intelligent, articulate manner, he compensated for those weaknesses by learning to simply overwhelm competition through the sheer force of his will, being willing to do and say things that most people simply would not.

The problem is that he (and, of course, his followers) believed that those "skills" would translate directly to the presidency, which was simply never going to happen. These are, by and large, very intelligent and savvy people. You can't bullshit and bully national-level politicians or world leaders. They saw right through him the first time they dealt with him.

So, here we are, isolated in the world and no longer its leader.
