OMG Elizabeth Warren for Treasury Secretary ?

Oh good god, please noooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Elizabeth Warren could face hurdles to a potential Biden Cabinet position

Elizabeth Warren reportedly intends to make her pitch as treasury secretary in a Biden administration — but the Massachusetts senator’s dreams may be dashed if Republicans retain control of the U.S. Senate, or if Democrats need her to maintain a slim majority.

Elizabeth Warren would make a great Treasury Secretary. But I would not hold my breath. Warren is one of the few members of Congress that understands the real problem with our current economy. The reason wages continue to show little growth, the reason millions of Americans remain in poverty while the uber wealthy continue to see immense gains, rests on one simple economic force, rent-seeking.

Our very system, from the corporate tax cut to the differing treatment of earned and unearned income, both encourages and facilitates rent-seeking. Warren is intuitively aware of this, and she understands the steps necessary to curtail the immense amount of rent-seeking that is siphoning off huge amounts of wealth and destroying innovation. Which is probably why she will not be the Secretary of the Treasury.

The classic example of rent-seeking behavior is political donations by corporations. The first step to curtailing rent seeking is to eliminate the gravy train that is fueling the political process. Fat chance our representatives are going to be willing to do that.

But let me close out by pointing to a real example of just how effectively the powers that be have not only established rent-seeking, but through the use of real propaganda, the kind Aldous Huxley warned against, have indoctrinated the public to accept this rent seeking willingly. What is a free market? What is the free market free of? If you google it, if you are in a business school where they make you read the terrible screed of Ayn Rand, you will instantly say it is an economy free from government control. That was not how Adam Smith defined a free market. A free market is free from RENT SEEKING. When we finally realize this, and finally take the steps to rein in rent seeking in our current economy, the frontier curve will begin to expand, poverty will be curtailed, and incomes will start increasing along with productivity. But it is a battle that few Americans understand, and even fewer are willing to fight. Elizabeth Warren is one of those few.
Who the hell is Adam Smith and why should anyone give what he says any credence at all?

So, googling adam smith is going to return about 4 billion hits.

So, be a good acolyte and provide us with who he is so we can evaluate his credentials.

Adam Smith is a LGBTQ demonstrator against Chick Fil A that became a Liberal Hero several years ago.

Steps to combat rent seeking that Warren might initiate

1. Earned and unearned income are tax equally. Ronald Reagan supported that policy.
2. Citizens United must be overturned
3. Corporate stock buybacks should be outlawed, AGAIN. They were once considered stock price manipulation, and that is exactly what they are. They should be banned.
4. The corporate tax rate must be increased, significantly. Low corporate tax rates encourage companies to take money OUT of the business. Higher corporate tax rates encourage them to keep the money IN the business. To expand the frontier curve companies have to invest, they do that with pre-tax dollars, not after-tax dollars.
5. Monopolies have to be broken up, oligopolies have to be controlled. Targets should be selected on economics, not the politics of their leaders.
6. Term limitations. George Mason had it right. No elected official should be able to be re-elected. One and done, if you want to try again the next election, fine, but no flippin 40 year Congressmen. President too. You get four years, period. Sit out an election and come back in four years if you think you are all that.

So, a social justice warrior who thinks that speech is free only for them and that corporate America should exist ONLY to fill the coffers of government for social justice programs.

Got it.

Adam Smith is the "Father of Economics". His book, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, written in 1776 no less, is the seminal book on free market economics. Within the field of Economics there are basically three "kings". Adam Smith, Karl Marx, and John Keynes. I am quite sure you know who Karl Marx is and I doubt you want to be following his economic theory. The sad reality is modern economists focus on Keynes. But they are now beginning to learn, Smith is the one with the most appropriate philosophy.

Me, I am a classical economist of the Adam Smith variety. I received my degree in economics working under Andrew Benavie at the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill. I fought him tooth and nail. He was Keynesian. Now he plays the cello in a symphony. I was right, he was wrong, and the field of Economics is quickly coming to realize what I knew all along. Any economic theory postulated after 1850 sucks ass. One is better off studying Xenophon.
