This is just a hypothetical situation to prove a later point, not some fervid fantasy of mine, lol.

But the idea is what weapon is best for open field melee? So we have this battle royal with swords on a large field

If you die, your captors ____________ (fill in the blank with appropriate evil scum villainy) will kill your family, and you are going to have to fight a bunch of murderous thugs anyway, so who cares?

But it is to be a Battle Royal sword fight.

You are in perfect health, and enter with only one edged weapon no longer than 40 inches and you can pick any sword known to mankind that length or less.

There will be twenty of you on a stadium soccer field entering from personal cages evenly spaced along the field. But once let out of your cage, you can be attacked by anyone from any side, a battle royal free for all.

What sword do you select?

A katana? Longsword? over-sized kukri?
