Lets honor those who created a nation to ensure that blacks would be enslaved forever. That is what the Confederacy was about.......Not Scarlett O'Hara, Not gentlemen fighting for a noble cause, not a cool flag to fly on your pickup truck

There are many statutes that depict the events and people who were enslaved. Some idiots might find them offensive. Does that mean they should be torn down?

Or maybe just tear down the statues you don't like? I would specifically like to know how you think this should work.

Should we also put up statues of the blacks who sold their people into slavery? What a bunch of racist countrymen

We are talking about publicaly honoring a nation built on slavery

Communities setting aside their most prominent sites to honor a nation that lasted four years and killed 600,000 people just so they could enslave others

Move them somewhere else and put them in proper prospective

Yea....a States right to ensure slavery forever

You don't get to erase history that you find repugnant.
You don't get to display your bigotry on public land, paid for by all the taxpayers. That's why these statues are going into museums, like other things discarded by history and progress.
Robert E Lee was not a defender of slavery...infact he stated it was politically and morally wrong. He was also asked to lead a Union army. He declined because he couldn't take up arms against the place of his birth....Virginia. He fought because he believed states had the right to secede. Pick up a history book sometime instead of parroting partisan bullshit.

Probably should outlaw the Dem party also. Based on the history of who started it.. Dontchathink??

UnivVa located in Charlottesville, founded by a Slave owner. Washington and Lee Univ has Lee buried in the center of ancient colonades. WHY? Because Lee spent MOST of his life up North. At West Point and in Engineering schools. And AFTER the war --- took the reins of Washington Univ. in Virginia. His role in the war was NOT as a fan of the the Succession or necessarily of plantation slavery. Arlington Cemetery is HIS property -- given to the country.

You think it's the SOUTH that can't over the Civil War. We have.. It's YOU that's still fighting it..

Incorrect. Infact Robert E Lee is honored for the way he helped in the aftermath of the war....to help avoid a situation that created rampant guerilla warfare type fighting that would continue on. He also helped try to mend the north and south to bring about healing and unity.

States' Rights to own their fellow human beings AND to expand that slavery to new territory without interference from the feds.

I really don't think a bunch of morons who didn't bother to learn the back ground of Robert E Lee need to be lecturing others on " perspective".

USA Today reported in May that in North Carolina alone, 35 Confederate monuments have been built since the year 2000. It’s hard to argue that those monuments are about history and heritage.

The paper also points out that Kentucky is saturated with Confederate memorials — far more than, say, Union memorials — even though Kentuckians fought for the Union by a 2-1 margin.

A recent Phoenix New Times report
found that half of the six Confederate memorials in Arizona were built in 1999 or later, the most recent in 2010. The oldest of the six was erected nearly 80 years after the Civil War, during which Arizona wasn’t yet a state.

^ modern day small government 'conservatives' spend public funds on confederate monuments WHY? :eusa_think:

The 35 since 2000 are probably counting every road sign and park service information station...

It's actually big biz. Because Americans are interested in the Civil War. And it's a big tourist draw. It should stay that way. It's UNHEALTHY not to promote that interest and the education opportunities that come with it..

Lee had a choice

Defend his country or defend a country dedicated to preserving slavery

He chose the latter
