Robert E Lee was not a defender of slavery...infact he stated it was politically and morally wrong. He was also asked to lead a Union army. He declined because he couldn't take up arms against the place of his birth....Virginia. He fought because he believed states had the right to secede. Pick up a history book sometime instead of parroting partisan bullshit.

At West Point and in Engineering schools. And AFTER the war --- took the reins of Washington Univ. in Virginia. His role in the war was NOT as a fan of the the Succession or necessarily of plantation slavery. Arlington Cemetery is HIS property -- given to the country.
