I agree. I don't like this news at all. We have plenty of outstanding American students completely capable and anxious to fill those spots.

The Chinese win just by sheer numbers. If we have 10,000 graduate students in a given year, that represents .0025% of the Chinese population. They can diversify better than we can.

The trick is to NOT compete with them on their own turf. The trick is to force them to compete with us on ours.

I wouldn't worry about chinese students so much as male, military age chinese immigrants entering illegally who can't be supervised nearly as well. If this deal is the cost of balancing the trade war I can live with it. Is it the best outcome? No. Is it possible to get everything we want from China without them asking for anything? No. Do I trust Trump to get the best deal more than I trust someone like China Joe Biden? Absolutely.

Because of Obama and Biden giving preference to the Chinese and fully embracing globalization even when it did considerable damage to the competitiveness of America, our ability to deal with China's rise has become much more difficult and The US does not have the bargaining power it once enjoyed. While only the left likes how the Chinese have treated the US over the last 30 years, there is little one can do at this point and Trump has to get the best deal for America possible. It is foolish to think Trump can just go dictate everything that benefits America without giving anything. However, the negotiations are just starting. What if Trump negotiates that 600,000 Chinese can enter the country just to study, however China has to take in an equal number of neo-leftists with full blown stage 4 TDS and keep them forever?
