OK....I didn't vote for this....Trump says US will accept 600,000 Chinese students as part of trade deal

The FBI is a law enforcement agency, not intelligence. WTF is NCS? North Carolina State?
Oh OK; feeding time at Prep School!!!

the FBI said it "regularly engages with the communities we serve. As part of this continual outreach, we meet with a wide variety of groups, organizations, businesses, and academic institutions. The FBI has met with top officials from academia as part of our ongoing engagement on national security matters."

Separately, intelligence officers have also briefed hundreds of American CEOs, investors and think tank experts on Chinese cybersecurity and espionage threats. "What we provide them is the classified information that we get from the collection priorities of China specifically: What they're trying to collect on, what they're interested in our campuses," William Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center,
The FBI visits have caused uncertainty among U.S. academics about whether to accept federal grants for research that may involve Chinese scholars. "We don't say you can't, because we don't have any legal authority to say they can't," Cate says. "But we say you should be aware there may be some sensitivity about this."

You should have spelled it out the first time it is used in your post unless it is a common abbreviation like FBI, which it is not!

So your source is wrong and you just go with it?

What about NCS? You didn't answer my question.
Rocky I NEVER go with just one source. That was 2019; the name is IN THE LINK!!

I suppose there are both technical and common language thingies; but if I recall correctly Trump 1 (Blessing be Upon him) integrated a lot of the functions of the Major Law/Intel Institutions. As did Bush post-9/11.

Pretty cool, hey!!!

Uh, not it isn't. I did a search for NCS. I got 0/0 responses.

President Donald Trump announced the United States is prepared to accept up to 600,000 Chinese students as part of a trade deal his administration is trying to strike with China.

“We’re going to allow, it’s very important, 600,000 students,” Trump told reporters Monday at the White House. “We’re going to get along with China. But it’s a different relationship that we have now with China.”

IMHO there should be no Chi-Com nationals in the country, much less in our schools.

That's not America First and I'm honest enough with myself to say so.
More spies.

Don't sell yourself short....I heard through the grapevine that you are the only dude who signed for the "Calculus For MAGA Dumb *****" course at Harvard.

Impressive.
Oh, I never attended Harvard. I just tutored students at Harvard.

Sometimes engagement is the best offense.

How can I say this - in the spectrum of people who want to help the Chinese, students are at most a dozen frequencies.

There are many other frequencies. Here's one: the Germans are holding an American citizen military contractor they claim offered to sell state secrets to the Chinese.

Banking, is a broad set of frequencies. All the stuff China is doing in the ocean and in the air and out in space is another broad set of frequencies, for instance in the ocean they're getting help from disgruntled Filipinos and even Thai Moslems. (No kidding, there's a large group of Thai Moslems in the south of the country, they've been fighting the government for years).

With students... again how to say this... keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I don't know if you've noticed, but over 2/3 of American universities have seriously upgraded their security game lately. With the help of the government, and companies like Microsoft. Ones you might not consider Ivy League like MIT, but places like CU Boulder and the University of North Dakota. These latter two do lots of research for the government, Boulder does aerospace and ND does photonics and such. All of these institutions have tons of Chinese students. And they're all very bright, very smart. At some point one has to recognize the enemy is formidable, and make a realistic assessment of what the battlefield will look like and what the capabilities are.

The best way to go that, is to start by gathering intelligence. Every Chinese student is an opportunity, as well as a risk. At the end of the day though, the reality is it's impossible to hide behind "secrecy". The only winning strategy in today's world is obfuscation, and the Chinese are very good at it, much more practiced than the Americans. We have to learn from the enemy. Gnome sain?

600,000 over what time frame? Sounds like a lot of whining without any idea what the final deal would even look like.

Is it because MAGA can’t math?

Letting Chinese get an American education spreads the ideas of our Republic. That is America first.

Trust but verify. That's it. We can't let our enemies make us paranoid. Stopping that just shows the Chinese how scared we are.

All it takes is a thorough vetting process. Furthermore, this is 'America First' as you MAGAs say. We have a chance to turn these students against their home country, our enemy. It would be a brilliant tactic if employed correctly. They could be the conduit by which we gain an advantage over China.

I agree. I don't like this news at all. We have plenty of outstanding American students completely capable and anxious to fill those spots.
