All of the companies in China are either completely owned or partially owned by the Chinese government. When it was completely a communist country, probably all the businesses were completely owned by the Chinese government. At that point, it was the governments business to see to it that necessary industries existed. So there were no subsidies. It was just the way the government ran. With any private companies there that exist and are partially owned by the Chinese government, again, there are no subsidies. It is just part of the way the government runs to see to it that those businesses continue to exist. As far as I see it, making profits isn't the point. Employing their citizens is.
