Just wanted to know what you would consider essential for a kit that would allow you to survive in the wilderness for an indefinite period of time.

Here's my provisional list. This includes only items necessary for survival. It does not take ones comfort into consideration.

A good knife.
A hatchet, or some other tool for chopping wood.
A saw
para-cord
fishing line, hooks
copper wire (for snares)
Some way to purify water, even if it's just a small pot for boiling water.

That's it, so far. Any other essentials I might need?

first aid kit.

Survivalist experts say the most important survival tool is a MIRROR. Look it up.

Clothes..

That assumes you want to be found. I'm talking about hiding out. Not surviving until someone finds you.

Matches or fire starting tool. ......
Magnifying glass, even a very small one like you find in an eyeglass repair kit.
It would be nice to have, but not essential. I'm trying to keep things as light as possible. Some of the items I listed can be combined into a multi use tool. Wal Mart has one that combines a knife, saw, shovel, chisel, plus a few other useful things.

If you're not sure you can handle it alone, take a scout along with you.

I would want a mirror anyhow. A magnifying glass and a wrist watch if possible. Water can be boiled in a bowl fashioned from a thick membrane cut from beneath the bark of most hardwood trees. Water is everywhere, no need to carry it. A heavy serrated Bowie knife can serve as ax or saw or shovel. Most vines are as good as para-cord or copper wire for snares. Fishhooks are good to have. I went through Jungle School and Survival Training in Panama. You want to carry as light a load as possible. Oh, and acquire a taste for snakes and monkeys.

Porn magazine

Although it would be Gay porn in your case. ......
Well, I guess I'll be adding you to my ignore list. I don't even know you, and you certainly don't know me. Yet you insult me, while I have not insulted, or even spoken to you before. Why so hateful?

A bicycle. Even running on just its rims it will carry twice the weight and move twice as fast as you.
I would most likely head for the Canadian Rockies. I don't think a bike would be practical.

why is this in the Conspiracy section???

Depends....but in THAT sense only if you're a liberal. In the other sense, it depends on whether you can think for yourself or whether you're dependent on NPR news for directions. In the latter case a decent radio with plenty of batteries should see you through.
