Obama steals a town and gives it to indians

When I first got here one of the first things I fell into was a decades old land dispute. Province decides oh and they still do this, in the interest of neutrality we take them off the land and put everyone in hotel rooms.

How freaking crazy is this?

We had major flooding. We take First Nations off their land and put them in hotel rooms.

Seriously how crazy is this?

1- The land the town sits on was stolen from the reservation by the State of Wyoming in 1906, aided by the US Congress.
2- Since that time it has been "subject to jurisdictional claims by the nearby Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes."
3- The present administration has ended the controversy by giving it back to where it belongs, to the Native American tribes for whom it was originally intended.
4- It is reservation land stolen from the Native Americans in 1905.

The situation reminds me of South Africa and how the Europeans took away tribal land and farmed it for decades, or longer, then got kicked off because it was never their land to begin with.

I think the people who purchased property in Riverton Wyoming, should be compensated at fair market value, but not by the NA tribes, by the US Government and the State of Wyoming who colluded in stealing the land.

Kinda like building a home on a volcano then bitching when it erupts.

Good for the Native Americans to FINALLY get back what was stolen from them to begin with.

I think I will do a little dance in the back yard for them, complete with my bells around my ankles and cranking out some NA drum and flute tunes.
I told hubby about this news and he said....."Good!" (He is yavapai apache).

The question is who governs the land - the Reservation, or the city, state, and federal governments.

Not the ownership of the property. No one's property has been taken, and everyone who lives there is still there.

No one is being forced out, as the OP claims.

I think what really worries me is that this is an EPA game?

And again please everyone I've fought for rights for years. But not this way.

Why the EPA? I'm going to go down deeper. Oh my. Not right.

And please everyone take a breather. These land claims have been going on far too long. Some people in my mind should be smacked up the head.

You have to understand deals were made. Then deals were broken. First Nations have every right to fight for their rights. These are property rights.

The native Americans here turned all their land into casinos. They are richer than crap. Ruined some of the most beautiful country out here. In true American style.

Yes, you're right. But the land is reservation land, under the jurisdiction of the tribes

But where the OP is wrong is this is still a solid land claim. Hells bells I've always been an activist and yes I'm a conservative now but still doesn't stop me from kicking ass.

It's a solid land claim. And I wish those on the conservative side would learn a thing or two here.

These were real deals. And First Nations have every right to fight for their property rights. AND WE SHOULD BACK THEM.

Actually no Esmeralda. There are so many layers. You got your feds. You got your state. You got your local and then and this is so much of the problem you have whatever dictates your tribe.

I've been fighting this for so long. Sigh. Why in this day and age is this happening?

I tend towards assuming that the tribes are in the right here, but I don't know enough about the claims to really judge.

No dearheart. Not under the jurisdiction of any tribe.

The Feds still own First Nations. I think it's horrid. I've been working at this for so long to try to say you cannot own a people.

Misty not sure where you are from but I lived in Brant County a long time ago. I have no idea exactly what happened but they rocked and became more than prosperous but the point being they are not are children, nor should they be treated that way. And they kept Brant pristine.

What happened in your neck of the woods? And you always have to remember that there was a certain culture who could buy off elders.

And elders can and will always be bought. They aren't virgins baby. This crap has been going on for centuries.

For those who in support of the natives in this situation, what are you going to think when the day comes when the law gives back large parts of Mississippi, Florida, Georgia and Alabama to the Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw, Creek and Cherokee people?

The removal of these people from the lands, and their displacement to Oklahama on the "Trail of Tears" was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court back in 1832, but was openly defied by then President Jackson.

I think most people, me included, can see the terrible injustice in that. But to make amends now would be well nigh impossible without crippling those states.
