Obama proposes "Free" Community College for 2 years

It is funny that they don't want to call something what it is due to it's horrible track record.

Funny how you have no objection to it other than slapping "socialism" on it and standing back with a OMG face.

Its socialist!!

Whats that mean?

ITSSS SOCIALIST!!!
I made clear that my objection to it was that it will not work. I even broke down the inevitable, unavoidable problems it will cause. So it's funny that you glossed over it.

What is truly funny is how it is socialism, so you try and hide it again because of it's horrible track record of failing.

You want to sit back and say "free education!!!!!". You then want to fight with those that actually understand that it's not free and that the quality of that education will only decrease as the inevitable volume of students increases.

Or will you limit this "free" education to a particular group, maybe based on skin color, or economic class?

Sorry, but I typically dont form my opinions based on doom and gloom stories of what could possible may occur in the future from a random internet guy

We're trillions in debt. Why do you want the country to go further in debt? This is astounding.

Ahh, the real moral choice...whats it gonna cost? And investments dont have payoffs, right?

Nope...never....ever ever

Not with govt involved.

Solyndra

It cost the tax payers billions with a govt in the red by trillions and please don't refer to the other hacks thread about solyndra providing bouquets for all the serfs. What a laugher. I'm sure you swallowed though. Lol.

Leftist parasites want civil servants to wipe their worthless asses for them from cradle to grave....

I think it's great to hear PMH admit he wants to be ruled by a ruling class. It really put a lot about his positions into prospective.
I'm a Liberal Elite, in a nation founded by Liberal Elites. If you would turn on your head you'd get that.

And the best form of government would be a Benevolent Dictatorship. Then we could really get some shit done.

I would have to say that I'm not surprised at your wishful musings.
I call it like it is.

"...the education at college of fools" -- Emerson, pretty much sums up Obama's Community College Free Tuition Scam

The money would be better spent on paying kids to graduate from high school, and for things like voluntary tubal ligation and vasectomies.

Cool. I didn't offer doom and gloom, I offered a reality that has a proven track record. Free chit comes with a huge price, usually mass murder... if you go off history.

Except your "reality" didnt include the reality that it could be a good thing. Your "reality" only sees problems and omit there could be a solution to anything

good for the recipient, bad for the taxpayer

“What I’d like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody who’s willing to work for it,” Obama said in a White House video posted Thursday evening. “It’s something we can accomplish, and it’s something that will train our workforce so that we can compete with anybody in the world.”

The president’s proposal would make two years of community college free for students of any age with a C+ average who attend school at least half-time and who are making “steady progress” toward their degree.

To be eligible, community colleges would have to offer academic programs that fully transfer credits to local public four-year colleges and universities or training programs with high graduation rates that lead to in-demand degrees and certificates. Community colleges must also adopt “promising and evidence-based institutional reforms” to improve student outcomes.

Federal funding would cover three-quarters of the average cost of community college, and Obama is asking states to pick up the rest of the tab — assuming Congress agrees to the plan in the first place.

“I hope we’ve got the chance to make sure that Congress gets behind these kinds of efforts to make sure that even as we rebound and grow in 2015, that it benefits everybody and not just some,” the president said in the video.

Obama said his online announcement was “a little preview” of his plans for the Jan. 20 State of the Union address. The cost details will be in the president’s 2016 budget proposal, White House director Cecilia Muñoz said.

Muñoz said Obama aims to make college “the norm in the same way high school is the norm now.”

The Tennessee Promise idea has, needless to say, caught on. And Education Undersecretary Ted Mitchell said on Thursday’s call that he hopes Obama’s plan will encourage more states to start similar programs.
How can one be willing to work for something that the govt provides as a free entitlement?

How could this be a bad idea?

How can one be required to work for something that the govt provides them as a free entitlement?

Obama said it should be free for anyone willing to work for it. Who is going to work for something they're given for free?

Its not free hence the reason he said you have to work for it

How do you have to work for anything if the govt gives you two free years? Sit and smoke dope and in two years you've suffered no consequence for sloth.

The problem of community college is that even with loans, a 'student' can put off adulthood until he maximizes his loans, and then move to McDonald's or some other such job and the only real consequence is he won't be able to go to anymore school and will have bad credit.

Moreover, that reality dumbs down community college. If this was really about helping kids in community college, I could see sending federal aid to help community colleges implement a curriculum that was truly the same for kids getting two years in and then moving on to university.

But, all this is "spend more money for the children" from the community organizer.
