Strawman much, education has always been left to the States until 1979 when the commies in the federal government decided to stick their nose in it, they have wasted trillions of dollars since just to get higher drop out rates and lower test scores. That proves that just throwing money at the problem is not a solution. Motivated students are the only solution and people are motivated when they have to pay their own way.

Let's see, 9 million students at aprox 3,800 per year each is 34.2 billion per year. The feds pay 75% along with a lot of strings put on the States and schools. I really don't see this making it through the GOP congress or very many cash strapped States adopting it if it did.

But what percent would pursue degrees mandated to qualify? My grandson just graduated with a degree in actuarial math...his cousin is about to do the same. They attend a university of 50000 students....400 are math majors.

That is the next step, mandates. And who's to say that 8 hours of community service per semester will not increase? Remember we're talking about a president who dreams of having an army of brown shirts.

My other grandson is on a 5 year free ride from the USAF (ROTC scholarship). They just asked if he would like to opt out of his commitment...still keep the scholarship. I hear what you are saying. Many good ideas.......poorly managed.

Poorly conceived in reality. Though servicemen and women have earned a scholarship, few would argue with that.

I don't think social issues should be taught in schools. They should learn math, english, history, and a trade they can earn a living with. Not if billy is fucking johnny in the ass it's perfectly normal, or that if your successful, you didn't do it.

Graduate first with appropriate degree....then get your debt paid off. No money first, based on a promise.

There is one college offering to pay off student loans if graduates don't get a job that earns more than $35,000 a year. I thought maybe that would catch on and eliminate the need for more government theft of tax payer money.

Students who graduate college should be able to get a decent job and pay off their student loans. Right now, some students get a lot of help while others don't qualify. They would all be equal once graduating, but those who don't qualify for aid are saddled with debt when they start their careers.

Maybe the colleges could reevaluate the tuition costs. Some professors make a gross amount even though they practically phone it in when teaching. My son's professors relied a lot on a website for assignments and even teaching. It was hard to get any of the professor's time if students had questions or were having problems with assignments. Yet, those professors made far more than teachers, who spend more time actually working with students.

As jknowgood pointed out in the last post, some professors and teachers use their positions to teach their personal views rather than the basics. They should stick to math, reading and such and leave their political views out of it. They teach their opinions as if they are facts and are hard on students who don't subscribe to their ideology.

Sure, everyone likes free stuff. Problem is that nothing is ever free. When some are getting free stuff it means others must sacrifice even more and that is never appreciated by the takers.
