Is this a dictatorship or what.....?

In a bid to give one of the Democrat's vital constituencies a lhand, President Obama will issue an executive order today that will cap student loan repayments at 10% of a borrower's monthly income.
....

The economic reasoning behind the maneuver is questionable, however, Delisle said. The president is making the case that “we need to help [student loan debtors] with debt so they can go into even more debt,” such as taking out a mortgage to buy a home. But student loans already helped these borrowers consume beyond their means, he said.
....

With no discernible economic benefit, there's only one reason to make another end run around Congress to get this done; politics. Young people are a vital cog in the Democratic party coalition so making them happy - and willing to vote in November - trumps common sense and rational public policy.

The student loan debt crisis is so bad that some Democrats are talking about a bailout; debt forgiveness along with payments to lenders. I know it's gauche to point out, but back in the 1980's when expanding federal student loan programs was being discussed, many predicted the scenario that is playing out today. It's small comfort that so many were right, but it also should be a lesson in out of control federal spending

Student loan debt is 1.3 trillion and counting.........printing presses will explode if they think it can be bailed out.
1 out of 3 student loans are in default........many millenials face no future cause cannot get credit......no tickee, no laundry principle at play.

So a low-income student can now get his loan payments "capped" below the rate that interest in accumulating on his loan?

Bingo - you got him hooked into paying, literally for the rest of his life. And the balance on the loan will NEVER go down.

Do you know how hard the Mafia's loansharks try to get people roped in like that?

Obama has done them one better. He didn't have to threaten anybody, unlike his godfathers in Chicago. Didn't have to break even one kneecap. Just a stroke of then pen, and it's done.

And if anybody doesn't like it... who are they going to call? The police?

Haaaa haa haa haa.......

or car payments....?

or total energy costs (including gasoline)....?

Obama to sign executive order capping student loan payments

The action is aimed at people who took out loans before October 2007 or stopped borrowing in October 2011. The majority of students with loans already have the option to limit payments to 10 percent of their income because of student loan legislation Obama signed in 2010 and regulations the administration adopted in 2012.

So Congress already approved legislation giving Obama this authority. I would strongly suggest reading that legislation before hauling out the tired old "bypassing Congress" meme once again.

If the dunces ever took the time to actually read some Executive Orders, they would find that a great many of them are directions by a President to the Executive branch to carry out the laws passed by Congress.

Congress will pass a law, and that law will contain instructions for the Executive to write the regulations which flesh out the law.

So how about proving Obama is "bypassing Congress" before making fools of yourselves?

"Ah, **** that! I heard one of my favorite piss pourers say it, and I drank it. My masters said it, I believe it, that settles it."

Like it. Let's get some shit done. Congress certainly can't.

really....? what is this going to do for America exactly...?

of course it will help the Obama Demonrats with voters.....

I would imagine they thought of that, and it will help the kids pay their rent and buy some pizza and beer. We want them to do just that, and to move out, and get married, and buy houses, and make babies, all of which are negatively affected when they carry too much student debt.

For the professions we really need college should be free. You pay us back with a few years of working for us.

Is this a dictatorship or what.....? No.

The government should refinance every student loan at 5% and box the banks and their allies out of extorting students.

The law that we are finding out many democrats voted for without reading?

And you are OK with that?

Of course you are...

uh....that was already pointed out in the op.....

President Barack Obama said in his weekly address Saturday that he would take action on student loan issues in the coming days, but gave no details. The executive order, first reported by the New York Times, will expand on a 2010 law that capped borrowersÂ’ repayment but left a hole in eligibility for people with older loans. Those left out of that relief include people who borrowed before October 2007 or stopped borrowing by October 2011.

“This makes it simpler to have one set of terms,” said Jason Delisle, director of the New America Foundation’s Federal Education Budget Project. But he pointed out that all borrowers already have the option of basing loan repayments on their income.

why didn't Congress make this change if it makes things so much "simpler".....?

Obama Pits Indebted Students Against Millionaires

June 9, 2014 - 7:23 AM

He simply can't help himself! The leader of the War on Class continues to divide this country in his endless efforts to bring about his goal of changing this nation. :eusa_whistle:

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama, framing the student loan argument on Saturday, said Congress has a choice: “Protect young people from crushing debt, or protect tax breaks for millionaires.”
In his Saturday radio address, Obama announced his intention to “keep doing whatever I can without Congress” to help “responsible” young people pay off their student loans.

In other words, “To hell with individual responsibility! Dig yourself into a deep hole and expect the 'haves' to get you out.”

"Students" would be more appreciative of a good education if they had to pay for it themselves. Give most people anything free fer nawthin' and they will inevitably abuse it.

Imagine - if student loans suddenly were no longer available - in just four short years America would have a dire shortage of holders of degrees in Underwater Basket Weaving!

many students used to pay for their education working part time and during the summers...

i heard that historically a good 4 year education used to cost about the price of a new car....today that would amount to about $20,000...but students today are paying 3 or 4 times that...or more...

Outrageous, they would have to read something and comprehend it at the same time!

And all you libs are missing the point of the thread -

Instead of going through Congress to enact or amend a law, King Barry ignores the process and does it himself. This only shows his disdain for the constitution.

Congress in this case, and he's hardly alone in that.

......and completely ignore the tuition increase extortion from administrative heavy colleges and universities.

Aren't these particular student loans already approved, maintained, and managed by agencies of the Executive Branch of the Federal gov't with Federal agencies both making the loans and collecting the student repayments? Isn't that the way it already works?
