Obama Calls for Restraint by Egypt’s Christians | The Blog on Obama: White House Dossier

President Obama has responded to the Egyptian military’s massacre of Coptic Christian protestors in Cairo Sunday with a pointedly even-handed statement that calls equally on Christians and the military to show restraint.

“The President is deeply concerned about the violence in Egypt that has led to a tragic loss of life among demonstrators and security forces,” Obama said in a statement released this week. ”Now is a time for restraint on all sides so that Egyptians can move forward together to forge a strong and united Egypt.”

Incredibly, Obama is not only equating the deaths of peaceful protestors and their killers, but he is suggesting that Egypt’s increasingly persecuted Christian minority should show as much “restraint” as their tormentors and refrain from vigorously objecting to the growing abuse.

More than two dozen people, most of them Copts, were killed as security forces attacked demonstrators protesting the burning of a church.

What BS!!! Restraint doesn't mean 'don't object', dumbass. You're just playing with words.

Actually, it does. It means don't fight back. Restrain yourself. Go willingly to the slaughter.

How about asking the Muslims to stop chasing their Christians into the streets and butchering them?

thats the point.....dumbass...

He should have made it clear that it is not OKAY...and they have a right to object.

Instead he offered advice to show restraint.

Your problem is you are putting words in his mouth. The OP commented on the actual words he used.

Obama is a muslim. I expect him to feel this way. Did our entire government not KNOW that this was going to happen? When the crowds were gathering in Tahir Square wasn't it known right then that the people were democratically going to decide to slaughter the Christians and burn the Churches?

The whole point of the Egyptian revolution against Mubarak was that he prevented religious murder. Now obama wants the victims to just accept it and show restraint!

I think Mubarak did a good job keeping the lid on ethnic strife in his country, kind of like Saddam did, now that he is gone the kiddies want to come out and play.

But....afterwards, he's going right over and apologize to the survivors!
