Obama Set To Release 55 GITMO Detainees As A Campaign Tactic

Obama hasn't been able to close GITMO but he's trying to release terrorists regardless. The date hasn't been set yet but word is he's still planning on releasing one third of the inmates even though it has been discovered that the leader of the attack was a former detainee and current member of al Qaeda.

Sufyan Ben Qumu is thought to have been involved and even may have led the attack, Fox News' intelligence sources said. Qumu, a Libyan, was released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2007 and transferred into Libyan custody on the condition he be kept in jail. Obama is trying to fulfill a campaign promise.....sort of.

He and many of his administration feels that most of the GITMO detainees are innocent.

They tried closing the place down but to them this is almost as good.

The problem is the timing, which shows a lack of ability to face reality.

It also shows extremely poor judgement, a trend that will become more and more common in the coming years.

Obama obviously likes ambassadors he appointed being returned home dead. With a move like this he's guaranteeing plenty more. The only sure cure for Islamofascism is innoculation by M1911. White House Releases Names of 55 Guantanamo Detainees


The Obama administration lifted its secrecy Friday on the names of detainees at the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who have been approved for transfer to other countries.

In a court filing in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, government lawyers said the names of detainees “no longer warrant protection.” They had been blocked from public disclosure under a 2009 court order requested by the government.

The filing includes 55 names out of the 167 detainees currently at the prison.

President Barack Obama on his second day in office issued an order to close the prison by January 2010 and set up a task force to review the status of prisoners there. The president’s plans soon ran into opposition from Congress, where lawmakers raised security concerns, and the target date wasn’t met.

The White House has accepted restrictions from Congress limiting the movement of prisoners to other countries or to facilities in the U.S.

However, it has continued to seek countries to accept prisoners who were identified by the task force as qualified for release.
