There are a number of threads on this already. But to answer your question, he was all about being black.

It could have been him 35 years ago. Does this mean he beat up whoever he wanted then? If he's upset that people locked their cars when he walked by, it's worth mentioning that he was an admitted drug user and someone wise WOULD absolutely lock their cars when he walked by.
