At the time, I just didn't want to participate in the Southeast Asia Wargames, so just getting rid of the SOB was swell by me. But on an intellectual level, I didn't think what he did was worthy of being removed from office. Yes he ordered his guys to tap the dems phones, and then tried to cover it up, and he obstructed justice even if he somehow didn't conspire to burgle. And that's a LOT different form Bill's shenanigans, but the public shaming and political emasculation seemed enough, and no way McGovern was gonna win, and he ended up wrecking the dems for 10 years.

However, we've since learned that Nixon conspired with Taiwan to torpedo peace talks with Vietnam back in 1968, and he kept that war going for a good four years just to get elected. That to me is treason, and he killed thousands of Americans for power.

At the worst, Trump's not come close to that.

I just heard this morning that a new detail found from the recovered/lost emails is that Strzok and Page were very worried about investigating Hillary because they thought she would be president and they were worried about her retaliating against them if they pushed the investigation too hard! So they soft-pedaled the investigation letting her off the hook hoping that once in office, she'd remember what good friends they were.

Well, I think the entire intent of the Pee Wee Nunez memo is simply to give sand for the Trump supporters to hide their heads.

But even if it's shown in a memo or email that irrefutably Trump offered Russia something for help in the campaign, and that he fired Comey after he learned Comey was investigating his campaign ties to Russia, Trumps not going to be impeached unless the Dems take the House and have a 5-10 person advantage, and even then the gop isn't going to lose the Senate, and even if they did by 3-4 seats, it takes 2/3's of Senators to kick a guy out, and not even all Dems will vote to do that, and imo they shouldn't even if Trump did what most of us think he did.

You are quite right. Even after the Nixon tapes were released and the special counsel fired.......a majority of republicans still opposed impeachment.

You're confused. No one has claimed Nixon was impeached. Instead, we're noting that even with overwhelming evidence, Republicans will still oppose impeachment for their own.

Even Nixon, even after firing the special counsel, even after the release of the Nixon tapes.

Goldwater did go to the WH to tell Nixon that he didn't have 34 votes to avoid impeachment. But that was in an era when senators didn't base votes on polls so much.
