Fewer than 10% of illegal assault weapons were turned in.
The reality is the homicide rate already was in a steady decline, and the fake by-back did absolutely nothing.
In fact, informal journalists investigating, say Australia has over 5 times as many illegal assault weapons now, compared to when they had the buy-back.
As you can see, the 1996 buy-back did NOT reduce guns, and they are now much higher in number.
