Now, let's be intelligent about this. The US occupied Japan for seven years. They did what they had to do and they got out.

Why didn't the US leave Afghanistan?

With Afghanistan's reputation, why go in in the first place. It can't be too hard, in a country like Afghanistan, to not find ibn Laden for 10 years, while not occupying the country.
