Taxpayers to possibly pay $10 billion to Trump

All moot. Apparently the IRS screwed the pooch by letting him off so lightly. Sounds like the IRS cost the American taxpayer $1.8B due to their incompetence. Does it hurt when you contort your body into these pretzel shapes to avoid logic?

“Charles Littlejohn abused his position as a consultant at the Internal Revenue Service by disclosing thousands of Americans’ federal tax returns and other private financial information to news organizations. He violated his responsibility to safeguard the sensitive information that was entrusted to his care, and now he is a convicted felon,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri

How is the IRS responsible for one of their contract employees abusing his position, and violating his oath?

The IRS secures the information by holding violators criminally liable, like they did for Littlejohn. He's in jail because he broke the rules by disclosing information he was granted access to.
That doesn't absolve the IRS of their responsibility to secure the information. Apparently, as is made abundantly clear by the fact that the contractor went to jail, the IRS did NOT secure the information sufficiently. The responsibility lies ultimately with the IRS.

Do you understand the concept of "THE BUCK STOPS HERE?" Obviously not.

Trump's lawyers and lawyers for the Department of Justice, which Trump oversees, are reportedly in talks settle Trump's $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury, both of which are also under the executive branch, for supposed damage due to an illegal leak of the president's confidential tax returns. Any settlement funds would be taxpayer funded. Trump claims he would donate the funds to charity. If that were to happen, it would in effect be a forcible donation by taxpayers to a charity of his choice. If not, it would be a transfer of wealth into Trump's (already a billionaire) pocket.

How do we feel about this?

The IRS is tasked by law to prevent the unauthorized release of private individuals' tax information. We should not allow such a breach to go unpunished.

That's absolutely wrong. He was a contractor employee

Generally, an independent contractor is responsible for their own actions, including negligence and damages, as they control their own work methods.

Contractor Liability: Contractors are responsible for damages to property or injuries to people arising from their operations, equipment, or employees.

If a DOGE employee did the same, is that the IRS's negligence for giving DODGE access to their systems?

A former IRS contractor was sentenced today to five years in prison for disclosing thousands of tax returns without authorization
One Billion Eight Hundred Million divided by 5 is $360M per year of incarceration. You don't think he was let off lightly? The IRS doesn't get to kick the can down the road, moron.

The person responsible worked for a contractor.

Is it the IRS's responsibility to police a contractors employees?

This is the most blatantly corrupt act in US history.

The plaintiffs and the defendant were both Trump's guys. Talk about a hustle!

This is now Trump's personal slush fund. This is from the order:

Once the funds are deposited into the Designated Account, the United States has no liability whatsoever for the protection or safeguarding of those funds, regardless of bank failure, fraudulent transfers, or any other fraud or misuse of the funds.

“The Anti-Weaponization Fund shall have the power to determine its own procedures for submitting, receiving, processing, and granting or denying claims. The Anti-Weaponization Fund may make those procedures public in whole or in part, at its discretion.”

Will we really just roll over and let him get away with this?

From the order:

This Settlement Agreement is enforceable and challengeable solely by Plaintiffs, Defendants, and the United States.

In other words, as Trump is both the plaintiff and the defendant, and the Chief Executive, the only people who can challenge this order are Trump, Trump, and Trump.

Most corrupt act ever.

It's hard to believe people will excuse this.

But they will.
