No more pennies will be minted

Gee, did you not know the Fed has to print money because Congress runs deficits?

Which has nothing to do with the fact the Treasury does have to get permission.

Gee, did you not know the Fed has to print money because Congress runs deficits?

The deficit is $36.2 trillion.
The Fed is holding less than $4.3 trillion in Treasury debt.
Less than 12%. DURR

When was the last time the Fed asked Congress if they could print some $100s? Link?
What was the vote? When did the President sign the approval?

Wow. Your ignorance goes deep.

Google "monetizing the debt".

The Board of Governors, as the issuing authority for Federal Reserve notes, approved and submitted its calendar year (CY) 2025 print order to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), on July 16, 2024.

The Federal Reserve Act allows the Fed to print money. It was approved by Congress and signed by President Woodrow Wilson. No Congress or President has repealed the Act.

You're welcome.

The Fed orders currency from the BEP, I don't see Congress deciding whether to approve.
The Fed pays for the printing, no appropriations required.

Yup...it really happened. The horse was moving normally but then malfunctioned. After it threw the kid it locked up or turned off...I don't know which.

I just kept walking...no reason for me to get involved with the mom standing right there.

I even held my laughter until I was out the 2nd door

Now THAT was timing! :D

Lol I sure hope that the kid was okay.

Would be better if the currency was deflated back to the point that pennies were relevant again.
When I was a young man I could take 15 cent to the grocery store and get a belly ache worth of candy for me and two friends.

This makes sense, we should have stopped minting pennies 20 years ago.
Instead of taxing pennies on the dollar they will have to be in increments of nickels on the dollar. TAXES are going to skyrocket now. It will be worse than when they went from millicents to cents.

/----/ I can't believe some on social media think it means you have to turn your pennies into the bank to have them destroyed.

We just use nickels as the lowest denomination. When given change as taxes can make the total value in the pennies the cashier just rounds up or down. Stores usually price their products in such a way that with taxes its a round number to a.0 or 5 as the final denominator.
/----/ Pennies weren't banned. They just aren't making them anymore. There are roughly 140 billion pennies currently in circulation in the U.S. as of 2023. They will still be used for the years.

At first glance it seems to make sense, but, I read an article on the subject that without the penny, a lot more nickels will be used, which actually has a much larger spread in cost to produce vs value than the penny does. The article made a good argument that we would actually lose more money by getting rid of the penny and keeping the nickel.

Except for the fact they make more pennies every year for a reason. As the pennies in circulation decrease from not making them anymore (which does happen for a number of reasons) then more nickels will be used.

/——/ That’s about 500 pennies for everyone in the US. How many do use a week?

I don't know if anyone has a comprehensive study on it all.
/—-/ There are plenty of coin collector sites with that info.
A few hundred billion. Between about 4 billion and 8 billion cents are struck each year and though most are sitting in “penny jars” they are primarily used for paying sales tax.
