Why Obama wishes he were king

Mel Brooks said, "it's good to be the king." CQ Politics guest columnist Bill Pascoe believes President Obama would give anything for a taste of that kind of power right now.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but Trump has been in office for almost nine months. Biden had four years. I don't recall you grading Biden to the same standard as you're doing right now. I do want him to fix things. That was why he was elected.
Trump was in office 4 years before. His performance sucked and he was fired. Biden led the largest increase in production and employment in history. We had the BEST economy in the first world (post-pandemic) and the LOWEST inflation in the first world (post-pandemic). Right wing nuts tripped over themselves to shout at the rain but we all made a ton of money under Biden. Profit and return records were everywhere.
Polls think that he's still better to handle the economy than democrats. Because democrats STILL haven't articulated an actual plan to deal with it. However, he has to work with Congress. Kind of proving that he isn't a king or a dictator. If Trump was either of those things, there wouldn't be a government shutdown, and he would just order factories be built to make things he wants to stimulate the economy. There are issues with republicans. The biggest issue I have with democrats/liberals/progressives are that y'all don't seem to get along with logic and reason. It's much more emotional outbursts (like these protests this weekend) than arguing policy.

Logic? The republicans have convinced you that giving tax breaks to the top 1% (me - thank you) and cutting support for those at the bottom is best for the country. He has given so many tax breaks to us at the top that it will cost someone else, down the road, $3-4 trillion more debt.

The Democrats have a logical plan. Raise revenue from those who have money and continue to support healthcare needs for those at the bottom. The GOP has you twisted so far around illogic that you believe that less expenses and more money for rich people is awesome!
You listed two senators who said that they were willing to talk about AFTER the government is reopened. So, why don't the democrats vote to reopen the government so that talks can start? Something tells me that the longer this tantrum goes on, the less likely you're going to get a receptive audience. Meaning, we're going to go thru again at the end of the year for the next CR if a deal isn't reached. BTW, when I read the stories about the subsidies, I always see the weasel words like "could" and "may". Sounds like to me like they're guessing and really don't know if this will have an effect.
The GOP and the president are untrustworthy. They arent honoring past deals. Trump has been canceling shit left and right to blue states that were approved by congress already and youre bitching about hardball on a deal? Pound salt dude. Read this:

lol is that what your media masters told you to say?

It was a currency swap loan. Keep repeating your 10th grade level DNC talking points if you want, but you will be called out here on your BS.
So far, no details or conditions related to the central bank loan have been made public. Santiago Bausili, the president of Argentina’s central bank, said this week that he hoped the U.S. currency swap plan would be activated before elections on Oct. 26. Speaking at an Atlantic Council event, he declined to say what kinds of assets would comprise Argentina’s side of the swap nor what the United States was seeking in return.

U.S. officials have been pushing Argentina for access to its uranium and lithium supplies and for it to scale back its ties to China, according to a person familiar with the talks. Mr. Trump said this week that a free-trade agreement between the two countries was also a possibility. The Treasury Department did not respond to a request for comment.

However, Argentina’s history of economic crises has raised concerns that the United States could ultimately end up losing money if Argentina’s economy does not stabilize and if the value of the peso continues to fall. The country has received more than 20 economic support packages from the I.M.F. since the 1950s. Of the monetary fund’s roughly $164 billion in support outstanding to countries around the world, Argentina accounts for about 35 percent.

And that's why the economy (along with immigration) were the top two issues in the 2024 election. And Biden, then Harris, was losing to Trump in poll after poll on who would handle either one of them better. That above screed is just partisan spin. It was so good that the Biden PR team told the media to stop using the word Bidenomics. That doesn't make any sense if the economy was going so well under his watch. Also, democrats lost the Senate as well. Y'all had the WH and both houses of Congress back in 2021. Lost them all by 2025. Let me guess? Right-wing lies? The people didn't know how well they had it because of Faux News and talk radio. 🙄 The ultimate proof is that after four years of Trump and four years of Biden, America decided to go back to Trump. There's not enough spin to dispute that fact.

I doubt that you're part of the 1%. If you were, logic would have it that you'd be a republican since their policies benefit you more than democrats. Logic says that the 1% benefit more than the middle class. According to the Tax Foundation, the top 1% paid over $1 trillion dollars in taxes. The bottom 90% paid $531 billion. LINK You pay more in, you're going to get more bang for your buck if it's cut. BTW, for all the tax breaks you allegedly got, I'm willing to bet that you kept every last dime of those cuts and didn't send a penny back to DC.
The Democrats have a logical plan. Raise revenue from those who have money and continue to support healthcare needs for those at the bottom. The GOP has you twisted so far around illogic that you believe that less expenses and more money for rich people is awesome!
So, why didn't they propose this when democrats had the WH, House, and Senate? I've heard since I was a teen about how the rich should "pay their share". What I haven't heard is what makes up their "fair share". You do forget that nearly all those people in Congress are millionaires themselves. The donors that they deal with are millionaires and billionaires. Why didn't they repeal Trump's tax cuts and put in new and higher tax rates for the wealthy? The democrats have you believing that they actually care about the little guy. Isn't that why union bosses are democrat supporters, but more of the rank & file vote republican?

That quote can explain how Trump and republicans are currently back in power. Democrats didn't do much of anything (or really acknowledge that there was a problem in the first place). That's why your party is out of power. If Trump and the republicans don't do any better, they'll pay the price at the voting booth. BTW, the democrats are playing hardball on subsidies that they wrote, voted on, and passed with the sunset date at the end of this year. Can't the argument be said that democrats aren't honoring the deal that they made in passing the American Rescue Plan Act?

Well it's tomorrow. Is it going to be live streamed? I'm going out for a while but I want some entertainment.

Democrats picked up House seats, had a historically unfavorable map in the senate, and lost with a back up Presidential candidate while sweeping the statewide offices in North Carlina and holding every single governor office. 2024 was mostly a stalemate except the Harris election. Republicans have the smallest majority in 90 years which explains why they cant do anything.

I was a scared republican when I was young and had no money. I was conditioned to believe that the republicans meant me when they said democrats wanted to increase taxes. I felt I was barely getting by. Then I earned money, a lot of it, and I realized tax rates up here at my income level affect my life ZERO percent. Its funny how many middle class Americans think their incomes are in jeopardy, as if the democrats are sitting around thinking up ways to raise taxes on $100k or $200K earners. They start at $400k and once I started earning that kind of money taxes meant little to me. Now they mean nothing as I blew paste those income levels further.

So, why didn't they propose this when democrats had the WH, House, and Senate? I've heard since I was a teen about how the rich should "pay their share". Senate rules of 60. Letting them expire doesnt require overcoming filibuster.

People are stupid. Really dumb. Its a real critique of democracy. I have no better solution than democracy though. Maybe a more vigorous education movement requiring people to stay in school til they are 20 perhaps?

Ya know I still don't get what the protest is about tomorrow. The freedom to do whatever you want even if it means hurting and assassinating people when you disagree with them?
