First of all NATO is nothing without the US. Not monetarily and not militarily. Greenland will absolutely not survive for another decade as an independent territory of Denmark... It will become a vassal either of Russia or China... Most probably China...."Whether they like it or not"... China is not going to ask how they are feeling about it before they do it. Denmark is not going to do shit.... Maybe Greenland will send out a few harpoon boats?

The United states has a signed contract with Denmark that allows unlimited military expansion on the island. It is still valid.

Trump has told Europe repeatedly that we don’t need them. They might be checking to see if that’s true.

1. I do not see either Russia or China as capable of building a military installation on Greenland, cuz it's too expensive and too ******* cold.

2. If they did (either one) the US President would state in no uncertain terms that their base will be destroyed as soon as they build it and tough shit if they don't like it.

3. We already have a military base there: Pituffik Space Base, formerly Thule Air Base. The base is home to a substantial portion of the global network of missile warning sensors of Space Delta 4, and space surveillance and space control sensors of Space Delta 2, providing space awareness and advanced missile detection capabilities to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the United States Space Force, and joint partners.

4. I do not see the need for the US to annex this country for national security concerns. I do not see any potential adversary as a threat to the continental US, but we do have Pituffik to tell us we're under attack. Don't know if we also have systems there that can shoot down incoming missiles, but that could be arranged.

5. Is this about untapped sources of oil and rare earth minerals? An agreement should be made with Denmark and Greenland that no other country can acquire those deposits. If they try, we destroy those sites.

6. Does anybody care about the cost of doing anything anymore? Apparently not, I feel bad for the younger generations who will have to deal with the fallout from the overspending we've been doing for the last 50 years or so. What will be the price tag for whatever ends up happening?

What about extending membership in NATO to Greenland? What is the deal between Greenland and Denmark? I think Trump wants to gain access to oil and mineral deposits in Greenland or at least deny access to China and Russia. Not sure what the current status is, if Denmark can make a deal with Russia or China to allow them access then I can see doing whatever is necessary to prevent that. Starting with the Danes, if they make a deal with Russia or China then there will be consequences from us that will dwarf the benefits they might get from such a deal. Plus R&C need to be told to stay out of Greenland.
