Nigeria Becomes The First Country To Officially Ban The Use Of White Models In Advertising

Seems really inclusive and not xenophobic.....

Representation matters and Nigeria is standing on it. Over the years, the faces and voices seen and heard in the country differed from who they were reaching. Foreign models and British accents were the default in campaigns and voiceovers. Soon, things will look and sound pretty different.

The recent decision from the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria states that all advertisements, advertising and marketing communications materials should use only Nigerian models and voiceover artists.

Nigeria has had an undeniable boom or renaissance with a “new sense of pride” among young people, according to Steve Babaeko, president of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria, Atlanta Black Star reports. The local love has spread globally with the massive commercial success of Afrobeats and Nollywood cinema.

Although the global craving has increased, the local Nigerian marketing industry seems disconnected. The difficulty of finding one native model out of the 200 million has the country up in arms.

On Oct. 1, which also happens to be Nigeria’s Independence Day, the outright ban will expand upon an existing tariff, which requires advertisers to pay 100,000 naira, or around $240, for every foreign model.

The hope is that it will channel more creative projects into the country and help boost opportunities for native talent. The British agency AMV BBDO has already shot an African campaign. Their campaign for Guinness, “Black Shines Brightest,” was shot in Lagos with a Nigerian director and local models, reflecting the shift in the nation’s advertising industry.
Isn't institutionalized racism grand.. They have not learned a thing.. Now comes the tribalism that this breeds and hate. They are about to find out that stupidity is painful, very painful.

Africa has a problem with a lot of women buying skin whitening products, many of which are hazardous to the health of the women using them.

I consider Nigeria's decision as a good step.

We have a "problem" with women who buy continoulsy new forms of diets because they like to be thinner than thin. What's sometimes also a real problem. The problerm is to eliminate the wrong products and to help the women who try to ruin their bodies on not any reason to have to do so. Another solution would be: Men had to change their preferences. But if all white men suddenly would fall in love with black thick women then we had only a new "racist" problem.

There is no white population. But that's okay. Multiculturalism is a white thing, born of guilt for white success

A good idea to go into a country where only Blacks live but not someone like you. Perhaps this will solve the western problem of a growing isolation and loneliness of all people of all ages and all "races" (origins).

I think the problem is in part the media telling men that thin women and light skinned women are attractive.

A lot of people have the opinion that light skinned and thin broads are indeed more attractive, however.

Don't people have the right to free speech and to vocalize their opinion on this kind of matter? Or don't you believe in the first amendment?

showing them often, implying they are attractive by showing more skinny and lighter skinned women
So you mean by exposure. Like if a media show has a white skinny woman as its host that is telling people that is what is attractive. Is that the implication?

You’re not saying that they are literally telling people that, right?

It has nothing to do with opinion. If you see more attractive black women and not many white women, then you'd think they are more attractive.

"Nigeria has renewed an attempt in the High Court of London to overturn an arbitration award worth $11 billion, as a result of which it owed more than a quarter of its foreign exchange reserves to a little-known oil and gas company for a project whose development has not even begun.

Here's Neocolonialism for you, in profile and full-face. In the same way, the civilizers, with the help of "laws" incomprehensible to the Indians, took away all the land in North America from them

In the United States White people have been banned from appearing in commercials, TV shows, movies and anything that is produced by Netflix and Disney.

During the early years of the TransAtlantic slave trade, most the African slaves were stolen/kidnapped from Nigeria. Just a little FYI. :lolly:

That's a lie. They were enslaved by other Africans and then sold. And for 1000 years before the USA was a country they sold them to n. African Muslims.

Actually, most slaves taken out of Africa were bought from African slavetraders and weren't stolen or kidnapped.

Where did you get the idea that "most" were from Nigeria? The information I've seen indicates that the slaves were procured from a wide areas between the Senegal River to the Niger River.

White have mostly been banned from advertisements in the US for several years now. You hardly ever see them in a Commercial or even starring in a movie or TV series anymore.

American TV programming and commercials have been going to shit for years. It's painful to look at our video broadcasts.

Much of it looks as though it was produced in some African shithole. Part of our overall decline, I suppose. 😢

African slaves were bought to colonial America. Most of them came from Nigeria; some came from Angola. . The were forced to work the land White Europeans had STOLEN from the Native Americans. :icon_rolleyes:
