Neither party wants to eliminate the filibuster on legislation because whenever the Senate changes hands...the minority would have ZERO power and all sorts of heinous legislation would pass and then be rescinded with the next change of control.
I actually kind of support that.
Granted it is mostly the left-wing that does this, however.....
Both parties tend to get into power, and then they play this game where they do not do what they claim they should do, and then claim it was the other party that prevented them from doing all this good stuff.
It's gets really old.
The classic example for me, is all the left-wingers screaming about how we need infrastructure spending. I look at 2009 and 2010, and see how the left-wingers had complete control of the entire government. They had the House, the Senate, and the POTUS. They had 100% power. They used that power to pass this massive spending bill, and then they ran $1 Trillion dollar deficits for 4 years.
After it was all said and done, we're told that they didn't fix the infrastructure, and they needed to spend more money, and so on.
When you ask "Why didn't you do that when you had control over the whole government" they say... Well..... the Republicans blocked us! They stopped us! They stalled us!
And endless other excuses.
So I honestly have a belief that we should just go back to a majority rule. That way whatever party is in power, has no choice but to own it. No more excuses, no more lying about how 'we really would have done what we said, it was just those evil other people that stopped us'.
