It's not the discretionary spending that's the major problem. It's the "mandatory" spending that's the problem

Good to see these calls but the Debt Limit will be raised. It just muddies the waters too much if it's not raised. It is sad but it is what it is.
How on earth do we cut government to the bone without cutting SS checks?
Hey, here's a no-brainer. Let me put it into a little bit easier perspective still, than I already have.
If you CUT SS outlays - Do you also want to ELIMINATE the tax?
Because if you ELIMINATE both, you INCREASE the deficit.
Coming into focus for you yet?
Because of course you want to continue the tax regardless whether there is a program.
Stop justifying over taxation.

No, I'm proving to you, in no uncertain terms, that SS is NOT the problem.
You are essentially sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "LALALALALALALALALA. Yes it is."

Every unconstitutional program that is bankrupting our nation is the problem.
Putting your fingers in your ears and ignoring the problem doesn't make it any less a problem.
And SS is bankrupt. Heck, the entire government is bankrupt. It's time to stop denying that and fix the problem.

I know. Sad isn't it?
But if they are going to raise the debt limit, I want to see real action to cut the budget. If they raise the limit and keep spending ill be pissed.
SS is 'Bankrupt' because it's funds were raided and spent elsewhere - Not because the program itself is in deficit.
I can't go through this with you anymore. You're willfully ignorant of the factual, undisputed reality of the situation.
One could make that argument and they'd be dead wrong. The biggest line item in the budget, which also happens to be a mandatory program, is Social Security. It has a $2.7T SURPLUS. That doesn't mean it's under a mattress in DC somewhere, it means that all other things equal, the debt would be $2.7T HIGHER had SS never existed.
I can't believe that anyone can be so willingly naïve....The debt wouldn't have been run up had there not been an immense honey pot of available cash to steal from in the first place.
Predominantly, overwhelmingly, practically exclusively, bullshit...The domestic socialistic moocher state hasn't come cheaply, either....I remind you that a lot of that spending includes federal mandates to the states, to shake down the peasants to pay for their "benevolent patronage" as well. The money was blown on discretionary programs over time; Predominantly, overwhelmingly, practically exclusively, on military programs.
Listen Oddball, one could make the argument that without the spending we never would have achieved our current status. We could go back and forth on this for hours. We're getting away from the topic, which is raising the debt limit.
Do you think it should be raised, yes or no. Do you advocate a government shut down? Would you ever, under any circumstances, approve of a tax hike?
Of course, the cuts suggested will all be in the social realm, and with a few cosmetic touchs for the Military-Industrial complex. And certainly more tax cuts for the very wealthy.

You finally admit that it has no money and yet you pretend as though that doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter why SS is bankrupt. It's bankrupt.
But hey, put your head in the sand a little while longer. The fact that people are going to die because of the lies and irresponsible spending doesn't matter. Maybe if we just keep ignoring the problem rather than fixing it, it will just magically disappear.

Fact remains that that we wouldn't be in this mess, were it not for the misnamed SS "trust fund" to raid. Well, the money has been wasted and is gone...Time to deal with it and quit pretending that it can be saved, because it can't be.
And taxes are already sky high enough...Time to do away with both Wilsonian military interventionist do-goodery and the socialistic welfare state.
Non-answer nothing...The fact is that there's nothing short of raising taxes that you'll ever find acceptable as an answer to anything.....Ever.Well, I think that's the best non-answer I'm gonna get.
You are right to point out that the SS trust fund was wasted elsewhere. Nobody denies that. I'd even give some credence to the suggestion that "They" wouldn't have spent so much if there wasn't a trust fund to "Borrow" from. Talk to Reagan. That's where it all began - To the magnitude of today's problems, anyway.
I'm all for responsible spending cuts. Unfortunately, we can't just cut our way out of this one. In the meantime, taxes up champ. Everyone enjoyed the ride up, everyone should be sacrificing to fix it. The booze cruise has hit the iceberg.

Social Security is a plain old train wreck, and your only "solution" is --surprise, surprise-- the catch-all and nondescript "cut the military" and more taxes on the productive to pay the laybaout and the looter.
Well, here's an answer: Fuck you...Come and get it.
The goddam "surplus" is being pissed away faster than it can be collected, you fucking fool!

DEBT CEILING - Raise, yes or no.
GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN - Advocate or oppose.
TAX INCREASES - Are they ever ok, under ANY circumstances?
