"An amendment to the House version of Florida's "Parental Rights in Education" legislation, which critics have called the "don't say gay" bill, would require the disclosure of certain student information to a parent after a period of time. Opponents contend this could equate to the forced outing of a child to family members who may not be supportive of their sexual identity. They fear this could put the child at risk of abuse. House Bill 1557, as it's written, bars school personnel from notification of parents or parental involvement in critical decisions affecting a student's mental, emotional or physical health or well-being.

But the amendment filed last week by one of the bill's sponsors, Republican State Rep. Joe Harding, mandates that school personnel "shall develop a plan...to disclose such information within 6 weeks after the decision to withhold such information from the parent. Democratic State Rep. Carlos Smith, the first openly LGBTQ Latino member of the Florida Legislature, tweeted this amendment "will have devastating consequences for our youth," calling it a "state-mandated outing of LGBTQ students to parents."

Lol, the libs are so triggered....you can't have it both ways....You can't claim to be loud and proud but not want schools to tell parents that their kid's a fag or a lesbo....If a parent doesn't know his or her child is a queer; but somehow school staff finds this out -- of course the school should sit down with the parents and out that kid...the parents have a right to know so that parent can take corrective measures to fix the kid before it becomes too late to save him. I will take it one step further, as soon as the school staff finds out a kid is gay - they should be sent to gay conversion therapy asap or at the very least, put these kids in their own school and keep them isolated from regular kids.....that is how this spreads...

Is this only targeting kids who are LGBTLMNOP? What about kids who are caught mainlining heroin in the bathroom? Do we want to wait six weeks to let the parents in on that?

This has nothing to do with gays. What the left really wants is the school to have the power to withhold information about vaccinations and abortions from parents. Leftists want the public schools to be the place children get abortions and other medical procedures without their parents finding out about it. The "gay" angle is just the disguise.

The assumption today is that school personnel are in charge of the lives or children and parents are just bystanders. Schools would administer prescription medication without parental consent and offer psychological counseling from unverified and sometimes unlicensed teachers. Keeping parents out of the loop and subject to the whims of teachers unions and possibly homosexual predators is dangerous and harmful to kids.

The kids know if their parents need to know. The school should not be interfering.

Since you can't defend your own goofy ass positions, you gotta make up imaginary positions and claim its something the "other side" is doing....

Care to show me any legislation...EVER...that advocates for students to get abortions at school??

Far as I know, the only folks crafting stupid ass legislation are folks who write "Don't Say Gay" bills.......

These people stand up and tell you what they are doing this for over and over again......

But the intellectually dishonest cucks on this message board can't help but to play dumb and lie about it.....

That is dangerous, that leaves vulnerable kids with no safe place to confide their concerns and schools. I suppose we can add child abuse to the Republican bill of parental rights.
We have many decades of evidence that you can spend trillions of dollars on an agenda and see no change in violence in schools affected.

Kids are the best judges of what parents need to know. This bill is nonsense.
Kids are the best judges?? Just FYI, the human pre-frontal cortex, which underlies the "executive functions" of the brain (i.e., planning, insight, foresight and many of the basic aspects of personality). That portion of the brain "is not," repeat, "is not" fully developed in females until the age of 18 and in males, the age of 25. As such, they can easily be poor decision makers and definitely not better than their parents.
Of course, people like you claim, "follow the science," until a topic is one you disagree with. In this case, the science would side with those who's pre-frontal cortex is fully developed and more apt to make better decisions than their minor children. Overall, the parents remain the best judges as to what is best for their own children, with whom they have raised throughout the minor's life and who truly know their mental states as opposed to the school educators have only an hour here and there with them and do not.

Tommy Taintlicker has a "thing" for kids. FYI.

If a child is worried they might be gay, for example, and are afraid of their parents finding out, who can they safely confide in? Teachers and counselors often end up in that role.

Beacuse the pedophiles see an opportunity

Need links? Better yet Google or even better...you already know.

The kids know their parents better than the schools . They will know if they are capable of handling the information. That should be respected.

Schools aren't teaching religion.
Why aren't schools teaching religion?? Are they banned or something??

Who are the ones who whine over and over again "This wouldn't be happening if they didn't take God out of the schools"

Conservatives have been trying to get religion taught in schools since the beginning...as long as it is, of course -- the religion approved by the state....and by state, I mean..white conservatives...
